UPDATE: 12 Dead, 132 injured in Boston Marathon Bombing

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/two_explosions_at_boston_marathon_iMR0LCkcwASg0RQfVsH1yI

BOSTON — More than 130 people were injured today as multiple explosions rocked the Boston Marathon in a "coordinated" terror attack.

Two explosions were detonated at the race's finish line within seconds of each other, beginning at 2:50 p.m. Three other undetonated devices were later discovered by authorities. A federal law enforcement source told The Post there are at least 12 dead and at least 132 people have been treated at seven area hospitals.

***CBS reported that an individual is in custody. He is reportedly cooperative and denies involvement in the attack.

***Investigators have a suspect — a Saudi Arabian national — in the horrific Boston Marathon bombings, The Post has learned.

***Law enforcement sources confirmed to The Post that authorities have a identified a suspect, a Saudi national, who is currently being guarded in a Boston hospital with shrapnel wounds.

Law enforcement sources said the 20-year-old suspect was under guard at an undisclosed Boston hospital.

Fox News reported that the suspect suffered severe burns.

It was not immediately clear why the man was hospitalized and whether he was injured in the attack or in his apprehension.

The man was caught less than two hours after the 2:50 p.m. bombing on the finish line of the race, in the heart of Boston.

Boston cops, feds, descend on Revere buildings

http://bostonherald.com/news_opinion/local_coverage/2013/04/boston_cops_feds_descend_on_revere_buildings

By:O'Ryan Johnson

Boston police and a cadre of federal officials descended on an Ocean Avenue apartment complex in Revere last night.

In addition to two Boston Police K-9 units and a bomb squad unit, a large contingent of federal agents from the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as well as Homeland Security investigations and state police had assembled at the two buildings.

It was unclear whether the search was connected to the Boston Marathon bombings. Tight-lipped agents said nothing to assembled media. Worried building residents said they were left in the dark.

Marcus Worthington, 24, a building resident said no one has told him what was happening.

"I started noticing the cars, the Taurus there and that one about 5," Worthington said. "We were thankful we decide not to go down. It's best not to jump to conclusions."

Worthington's girlfriend Whitney Drake, 24, was concerned.

"It's never a good thing to see all of these agencies. It's more than a local problem," Drake said.

Revere Fire Department engine and ladder arrived with Cataldo Ambulance service arrived about 10:30 p.m.

Officials had no comment when asked by reporters what was happening.

Boston Police Crime Scene Response unit which collects evidence following major crimes arrived and two members of that unit took several brown paper bags, normally used to store evidence taken from the scene, into the building.

Deadly wave of bombings across Iraq ahead of elections

Baghdad (CNN) -- A series of bomb blasts across Iraq on Monday killed at least 42 people and wounded more than 257 others, police said.

The attacks took place in at least six provinces: Baghdad, Anbar, Babel, Kirkuk, Salaheddin Diyala, and Nasriya, police officials across the country told CNN.

Two of the bombs exploded at a checkpoint near Baghdad's international airport.

Most of the attacks in Baghdad targeted Shiite areas, police told CNN. Al Qaeda in Iraq, made up of Sunni extremists, has claimed responsibility for many attacks in recent months.

Attacks elsewhere hit security checkpoints, Shiite areas and political offices.

With provincial elections scheduled to take place in five days, ongoing attacks have politicians worried that violence could skew the outcome, if Iraqis who fear attacks on polling centers stay at home.

Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah Celebrate Boston Terror Attack

And yet Obuma just bypassed Congress to give these same people $500 million in U.S. taxpayer aid.

Jerusalem, Israel --- April 15, 2013 ... Shortly after terror bombs exploded and murdered over 12 people at the Boston Marathon, members of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah were reported to be dancing in the streets of Gaza, handing out candies to passerbys.

A number of Palestinians had danced in the street in celebration of the 9/11 attacks in 2001 on the World Trade Center and Washington resulting in the deaths of thousands of Americans.

The head of an Islamic terror organization in Jordan - the Muslim Salafi group says he's "happy to see the horror in America" after the bombing attacks in Boston.

"American blood isn't more precious than Muslim blood," said Mohammad al-Chalabi, who was convicted in an al-Qaeda-linked plot to attack US and other Western diplomatic missions in Jordan in 2003.

"Let the Americans feel the pain we endured by their armies occupying Iraq and Afghanistan and killing our people there," he said today.

A Mideast counterterrorism official based in Jordan said the blasts "carry the hallmark of an organized terrorist group, like al-Qaeda."

The New York Post has reported that at least 12 people are dead and over 100 injured – including up to 15 with amputated limbs – after two bombs ripped through the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

Police and FBI were guarding a person of interest at a local hospital, according to a New York Post report confirmed by Fox News. The person, who sources said was 20 years old, had severe burns, but authorities had not determined whether the person was a victim or a perpetrator. Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis said during a press conference that no suspect has yet been charged.

The Boston terror bombings took place just before 3 p.m. and reports of two other unexploded bombs were found near the scene reinforced that this was indeed a terrorist attack. Intelligence officials told The Associated Press two unexploded devices were being dismantled. Competitors and race organizers were crying as they fled the bloody chaos, while some witnesses reported seeing victims with lost limbs.

"Somebody's leg flew by my head," a spectator, who gave his name as John Ross, told the Boston Herald. "I gave my belt to stop the blood."

The first two bombings occurred at 2:50 p.m. – nearly five hours after the marathon began – about 50 to 100 yards apart, according to Davis. A third explosion occurred near the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in the Columbia Point section of Dorchester, several miles southeast of the marathon's finish line, at around 4:15 p.m. Police could not say if it was related to the earlier explosions.

The FBI, which was treating the bombing as a terrorist investigation, was analyzing video from several area surveillance cameras.

Over twenty-six people were transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital, including a 3-year-old, who was then taken to a children's hospital. A doctor at the hospital said at least two of the patients there are in critical condition and that some have burns and injuries that will likely require amputations.

Witnesses heard booms that sounded like two claps of thunder near the finish line inside the Fairmount Copley Plaza Hotel, according to multiple local reports. The terror attack unfolded as the city marked the 238th annual Patriot's Day, commemorating the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord at the beginning of the Revolutionary War.

President Obama said Monday that those responsible will "feel the full weight of justice." The President assured that the administration is mobilizing its "full resources" to help investigate and provide security.

The President addressed the US from the White House briefing room just hours after the bombing attacks in Boston.
Obama has been in contact with Massachusetts officials regarding the fatal terror attack and has directed his administration to provide "whatever assistance is necessary."

A White House official said the president called Boston Mayor Tom Menino and Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick earlier Monday to "express his concern for those who were injured and to make clear that his administration is ready to provide needed support as they respond to the incident."

Obama was briefed by Homeland Security adviser Lisa Monaco and other members of his senior staff Monday afternoon, as well as by FBI Director Robert Mueller and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone impacted by this incident in Boston, especially the families and loved ones of those injured," said US Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. "Federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies continue to respond, and at the President's direction, the Department of Homeland Security is providing any support necessary in this ongoing investigation. We encourage the public to be vigilant, and to listen to direction from state and local officials."

Officals in Jerusalem expressed regret for the senseless loss of life in Boston and declared that the people of Israel had the people of Boston in their thoughts and prayers. Israel Humanitarian Aid stated that if needed, they would fly to Boston to provide assistance to first responders and the terror victims.

Everybody is frustrated at how little it seems is known at this point. And they seem — I was told that the reason he — they debated whether to use certain words. I know that does matter. And that because when the president says terrorist attack, that's a whole lot different than when Dianne Feinstein says it.

The text messages, too horrible to believe, came as Christina and James Keefe sat with their grown sons at a restaurant in Dorchester. The young men had just run in the Boston Marathon, and were shaken but relieved to have escaped a horrific double-bombing unharmed.

Sneaking glances under the table, James Keefe read the desperate, curt missives from friends and neighbors:

Eight-year-old Martin Richard, son of a well-known, much beloved family of the Dorchester area of Boston, had likely been killed by the bomb that detonated near the marathon's finish line.

His mom, Denise, and his younger sister, Jane, were also seriously hurt.

Local news reports said Denise had undergone emergency surgery, and Jane suffered a grievous injury to her leg.

Christina Keefe described her family as close friends of the Richard family, who live near them in the Ashmont section of Dorchester.

"He was so polite, composed, older than his years really," Christina Keefe said of Martin on Tuesday morning. "I can see him now, holding his mom's arm as she took them on their walks around the neighborhood."

A woman who was at the Boston marathon to cheer on a friend was identified today as the second person to die in the terrorist bombing.

Krystle Campbell, 29, joins Martin Richard, 8, as the two fatalities from the Monday attack. A third person who died in the twin blasts has not yet been identified.

Campbell's parents William Campbell Jr. and Patty Campbell at first thought their daughter's friend had been killed, but later learned that it was their daughter who was the victim, according to ABC News' Boston affiliate WCVB.

The parents discovered their daughter was the one who had died when they were finally allowed to see the patient who had survived.

"I said, 'That's not my daughter. That's Karen! Where's my daughter?'" Patty Campbell told WCVB.

"My daughter was the most lovable girl. She helped everybody and I'm just so shocked right now. We're just devastated," William Campbell Jr.told Yahoo News. "She was a wonderful, wonderful girl. Always willing to lend a hand."

Then it shows a man literally jumping up after the blast and running at a dead run, while others are still apparently stunned. Of course, it might be normal to run. What is perhaps a little unusual is the speed and the fact that he is dressed in black.

The two bombs that killed three people and injured at least 176 at the Boston Marathon on Monday were made from six-liter pressure cookers crammed with shards of metal, nails and ball bearings and stashed in black backpacks, police sources revealed today.

The cruelly-designed bombs have 'frequently' been used in Afghanistan, India, Nepal and Pakistan, according to a 2010 Homeland Security Department pamphlet – hinting at the origins of the bombers behind the worst terrorist atrocity in the U.S. since 9/11.

Although no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks, similar devices were used in the failed 2010 attempt to bomb Times Square by Faisal Shahzad, who admitted he had undergone bomb-making training at a militant Islamist faction camp in Pakistan.

A pressure-cooker bomb is also a preferred weapon of al-Qaeda and listed as the 'most effective' weapon of jihad, according to an English-language terror magazine called Inspire.

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., noted today that al-Qaeda's magazine, Inspire, gave instructions on how to make the pressure cooker bombs used in the attack on the Boston Marathon yesterday.

"My understanding is that those pressure cooker-type bombs were described years ago in Inspire, the al-Qaeda magazine," King, chairman of the House Homeland Security subcommittee, told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell, per a rush transcription.

[...]

BOSTON (AP) -- The bombs that ripped through the Boston Marathon crowd appear to have been fashioned out of ordinary kitchen pressure cookers, packed with nails and other fiendishly lethal shrapnel, and hidden in duffel bags left on the ground, investigators and others close to the case said Tuesday.

President Barack Obama branded the attack an act of terrorism, whether carried out by a solo bomber or group, and the FBI vowed to "go to the ends of the Earth" to find out who did it.

Scores of victims remained in Boston hospitals, many with grievous injuries, a day after the twin explosions near the marathon's finish line killed three people, wounded more than 170 and reawakened fears of terrorism. A 9-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy were among 17 victims listed in critical condition.

Officials found that the bombs consisted of explosives put in common 1.6-gallon pressure cookers, one containing shards of metal and ball bearings, the other packed with nails, and both stuffed into duffel bags, said a source close to the investigation who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was still going on.

At a news conference, FBI agent Richard DesLauriers, FBI agent in charge in Boston, confirmed that investigators had found pieces of black nylon from a bag or backpack and fragments of BBs and nails, possibly contained in a pressure cooker. He said the items were sent to the FBI for analysis at Quantico, Va.

Pressure-cooker explosives have been used in international terrorism, and have been recommended for lone-wolf operatives by Al-Qaida's branch in Yemen. But information on how to make the bombs is readily found online, and U.S. officials said Americans should not rush to judgment in linking the attack to overseas terrorists.

The bombs exploded 10 or more seconds apart, tearing off victims' limbs and spattering streets with blood, instantly turning the festive race into a hellish scene of confusion, horror and heroics.

The blasts killed 8-year-old Martin Richard of Boston, 29-year-old Krystle Campbell of Medford, Mass., and a third victim whose name has not been released.

Doctors who treated the wounded corroborated reports that the bombs were packed with shrapnel intended to cause mayhem.

"We've removed BBs and we've removed nails from kids. One of the sickest things for me was just to see nails sticking out of a little girl's body," said Dr. David Mooney, director of the trauma center at Boston Children's Hospital.

At Massachusetts General Hospital, all four amputations performed there were above the knee, with no hope of saving more of the legs, said Dr. George Velmahos, chief of trauma surgery.

"It wasn't a hard decision to make," he said. "We just completed the ugly job that the bomb did."

In the wake of the attack, security was stepped up around the White House and across the country. Police massed at federal buildings and transit centers in the nation's capital, critical response teams deployed in New York City, and security officers with bomb-sniffing dogs spread through Chicago's Union Station.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano urged Americans "to be vigilant and to listen to directions from state and local officials." But she said there was no evidence the bombings were part of a wider plot.

Pressure-cooker explosives have been used in Afghanistan, India, Nepal and Pakistan, according to a July 2010 intelligence report by the FBI and the Homeland Security Department. One of the three devices used in the May 2010 Times Square attempted bombing was a pressure cooker, the report said.

"Placed carefully, such devices provide little or no indication of an impending attack," the report said.

Investigators said they have not yet determined what was used to set off the Boston explosives. Typically, these bombs have an initiator, switch and explosive charge, according to a 2004 warning from Homeland Security.

"We will go to the ends of the Earth to identify the subject or subjects who are responsible for this despicable crime, and we will do everything we can to bring them to justice," the FBI's DesLauriers said.

The Pakistani Taliban, which claimed responsibility for the 2010 attempt in Times Square, has denied any part in the Boston Marathon attack.

Al-Qaida's branch in Yemen gave a detailed description of how to make a bomb using a pressure cooker in a 2010 issue of Inspire, its English-language online publication aimed at would-be terrorists acting alone.

In a chapter titled "Make a bomb in the kitchen of your mom," it says "the pressurized cooker is the most effective method" for making a simple bomb, and it provides directions.

Naser Jason Abdo, a former U.S. soldier, was sentenced to life in prison last year after being convicted of planning to use a pair of bombs made from pressure cookers in an attack on a Texas restaurant frequented by soldiers from nearby Fort Hood. He was found with the Inspire article.

Investigators are combing surveillance tapes and pictures from the Boston attack and appealing to the public to turn over personal photos and video that might yield clues.

"This is probably one of the most photographed areas in the country yesterday," said Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis. He said two security sweeps of the marathon route had been conducted before the bombing.

Boston police and firefighter unions announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to arrests.

Obama said officials do not know who carried out the attack or why -- "whether it was planned and executed by a terrorist organization, foreign or domestic, or was the act of a malevolent individual."

But he said "any time bombs are used to target innocent civilians, it is an act of terror." And he declared: "The American people refuse to be terrorized."

Boston Marathon Bomb Rumors Floating On The Web
That The Saudi's Might Be Involved

Devastating information coming to the fore as many major sites are reporting that there might be a cover up of Saudi involvement in the Boston bombing by Federal officials.

The theory is that Boston police had suspects and the Fed pressured them to shut up.  Boston police would be hopping mad if this is so.

You can follow the story here:
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/04/18/report-saudi-national-ruled-out-as-suspect-in-boston-marathon-bombings-to-be-deported-on-national-security-grounds-next-week/

Veteran police and military people from many sources are saying that the official narrative 'smells to high heaven' as Obama was visited unannounced (which never happens) by the Saudi foreign minister and suddenly stories of dark skinned  perpetrators disappear from the news.

Eyewitness  marathon runners said that bomb drills were taking place at the start of the event and that participants were told to remain calm.

"At the starting line this morning, they had bomb sniffing dogs and the bomb squad out there," he said. "They kept announcing to runners not to be alarmed, that they were running a training exercise," said Ali Stevenson and others present at the time.

Diana West is following this and has information on the very suspicious photos found on the net which are  of great interest. She says the case for a Seal or Blackwater type  logo on their clothing is very strong.
The photos show men with dark skin wearing black back packs and earphones  which are gone from their back just before the bombing.

Here is another photo of men with backpacks that has been making the Internet rounds. Anthony Gucciardi at InfoWars.com makes an interesting case that one of these men in wearing a ball cap with a SEAL-type logo. Judging by their gear, Gucciardi's guess is that the men may be employees of "the Blackwater-style private military/security firm Craft International." If so, why were they there? Taking in race day? Of course, maybe the guy just bought a hat with a SEAL-type logo.

Surveillance Video - nice but what about that Saudi problem?
Posted by Shoebat Foundation

Here is the surveillance video of two suspects in the Boston marathon bombings. It will no doubt be played over and over in the coming days. Though this may be helpful to some, we still have unanswered questions about the connections of the Saudi national who has several ties to Al-Qaeda through his clan.
Where is the intellectual curiosity about those connections? The American people should not be expected to forget about that.

Some in the clan are senior al-Qaida members while others are reportedly being held by the U.S. in the Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba. Two Saudi nationals were reportedly injured in the bombings in Boston, with one, Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi, initially put under armed guard at a hospital. CNN reports this:

"The second edition of an online al Qaeda magazine has surfaced with frank essays, creatively designed imagery and ominous terror tips such as using a pickup truck as a weapon and shooting up a crowded restaurant in Washington.
The magazine is called "Inspire" and intelligence officials believe that an American citizen named Samir Khan, now living in Yemen, is the driving force behind the publication."

An idea in the first edition, "Make a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom," is touched on again.
"The pressurized cooker should be placed in crowded areas and left to blow up. More than one of these could be planted to explode at the same time. However, keep in mind that the range of the shrapnel in this operation is short range so the pressurized cooker or pipe should be placed close to the intended targets and should not be concealed from them by barriers such as walls."

Does freedom of the press/speech extend to advocating killing?
Is it time to profile and place political correctness on a back burner?
Is it also time for requirements for citizenship to be revamped and made much harder?
At one time in America is was illegal to hold dual citizenship and that should be true once again.

The CNN report makes it seem as though Samir Khan is still living. This is not so.  Wikipedia and the New York Times (Oct. 2011) both report that:

"Samir ibn Zafar Khan (December 25, 1985 – September 30, 2011) was the Pakistani American editor and publisher of Inspire magazine, an English-language online magazine reported[by whom?] to be published by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samir_ibn_Zafar_Khan

A citizen of the United States, whose family claims to have met with the FBI and were allegedly told that he was not under an indictment, nor formally accused of any crime,[1] he was killed in a drone strike in Yemen while in the presence of al-Qaeda leader Anwar al-Awlaki."

BOSTON POLICE SCANNER: MIKE MULUGETA (#1 bombing suspect) IS DEAD

WATERTOWN, Mass. - A tense night of police activity just days after the Boston Marathon bombings caused police to converge on a neighborhood outside Boston where explosives and gunfire were heard.

The chaos in Watertown, about 10 miles west of Boston, occurred just hours after a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer was shot and killed on campus.

CBS News has learned a suspect was taken to a hospital and is dead. Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis tweeted that a second suspect as at large — the one seen in the white hat in images released by the FBI Thursday of the Boston Marathon suspects. Davis says he is "armed and dangerous."

BOSTON GLOBE: WATERTOWN — One suspect in Monday's Boston Marathon bombings has been captured, according to an official with knowledge of the investigation. Another remains on the loose in Watertown after a firefight with police. Authorities have established a 20-block perimeter as they search for him.

A scene of chaos descended on Cambridge and Watertown late Thursday night and early Friday morning, as police confirmed an MIT police officer was shot and killed, and an apparent carjacking led police on a wild chase into Watertown.

Witnesses in Watertown said they heard explosions. Police officers were screaming about improvised explosive devices.

Authorities would not comment on whether the events were connected to Monday's Boston Marathon bombings. At least one of the suspects in Watertown appeared to be a man in his 20s.

FBI agents were on the scene in Watertown.

"We are aware of the situation, we are being involved, and we are monitoring," said an FBI representative who requested anonymity because of not being authorized to speak publicly. The FBI source said early Friday it is "too early to speculate" on a relation to the Marathon bombing.

Dozens of police officers descended on Watertown Square after midnight.

"This is still extremely dangerous," an FBI agent said. The Cambridge bomb squad arrived in Watertown shortly after 1:30 a.m.

A man in handcuffs was being questioned by the FBI in the back of an ambulance.

At Arsenal Court and Arsenal Street in Watertown, an officer bellowed: "Ya gotta get outta here. There's an active shooter here with an active explosive. Go!"

Peter Jennings, 33, said he was sleeping just before 1 a.m. in his home on Prentiss Street in Watertown when he was awakened by a huge boom.

"It sounded like a stick of dynamite went off," he said. "I looked out the window, and it was like nothing I've ever seen – blue light after blue light after blue light."

He said more than three dozen emergency vehicles with sirens blaring were heading down Rt. 16 West. He went to the end of his street, where some neighbors were gathering. The air, he said, smelled like "at the end of a fireworks show, like a wick smell."

"I had a bad feeling because of what happened on Monday," he said.

John Antonucci's 79-year-old mother called him hysterical from her home in Laurel Street. She heard about five gun shots and didn't know what to do.

"She was saying they're running down the street shooting," Antonucci said standing outside if yellow police tape. "She was crying so hard I couldn't understand what she was talking about."

So he told her: Stay inside the house.

Residents describe the neighborhood as safe and family oriented, where they leave open doors and windows and feed stray cats.

Standing on the corner of Quincy and Nichols as police officers hastily strung up caution tape, Lindsay Gaylord, 25, and Collin Ausfeld, 26, peered over the scene to get a glimpse of their apartment about a block away on Dartmouth Street.

"I was buying ice cream right there" — Gaylord pointed to a structure a few steps away, behind the caution tape "just this afternoon."

Ausfeld stared at the crime scene in front of him, trying to make sense of what he was seeing. As an afterthought, he muttered, "I hope the apartment doesn't blow up."

The couple said they moved to the neighborhood in January, leaving behind their Belmont place, because Watertown was closer to the city, and their block was quiet, safe, and friendly.

"After this, I still feel safe on this street," Gaylord said. "I mean, you just never know with these things."

Adam Healy, 31, said he stepped outside for a cigarette near one of the shooting scenes in Watertown, when he heard gunfire.

"I just heard tons of gunshots," he said. "Gunshot, gunshot, gunshot, gunshot. Then I saw an explosion and saw a burst of light in the sky."

Imran Saif, a cab driver, was parking his car for the night near Dexter and School streets and was preparing to bike home from Cambridge when he heard a series of loud noises that he said "sounded like fireworks." He said he biked toward the sounds, thinking they fireworks, when people in nearby houses began waving him back, telling him it was gunfire.

"It just sounded like there was automatic weapons going off, and I heard a few explosions," he said. "They sounded like fireworks, mostly, big fireworks going off — tons, I'd say. I'm really scared. When I found out it was gunshots, that just knocked the wind out of me."

Police were demanding that cellphones be turned off.

The MIT officer, who has not been identified, was shot multiple times at 10:48 p.m., according to the Middlesex district attorney's office. No one else was hurt, and no arrests had been made by early Friday.

The manhunt fanned out from Kendall Square over an area that has endured a tragic and tumultuous week, in the aftermath of the fatal explosions at Monday's Boston Marathon. There was no report of a connection between the two events, but the swarm of sirens and circling helicopters rattled a region already on edge.

Police from several agencies were conducting a manhunt for the gunman across the school campus and on the T's Red Line, according to authorities.

MIT and Cambridge police responded to a report of shots fired at 10:48 p.m. Thursday near Main and Vassar streets, according to the university.

Police officers and canine units swept the campus, and a big swath of Vassar Street was blocked.

The university issued an alert to students and faculty to remain inside.

An eerie quiet descended on the campus as teams of police officers combed the campus block by block. SWAT teams were present.

Police checked bushes and alleys and yanked on doors.

Officers from the MIT and Harvard departments, as well as Cambridge and State Police, were present.

Siddhartha Varshney was walking home from dinner with two friends when they were stopped at the police cordon.

"Initially, we thought they had caught the suspect in the bombing," the 28-year-old said. But they then learned it was a shooting involving an MIT officer.

"Well, I — honestly — I mean, I can't think what I make of it. The situation is a little tense," he said. "And I hope that whoever he is gets caught."

Few seemed to be out on the campus at the time of the shooting. One professor, standing feet from the police tape, said he came out of his office when he heard a commotion of sirens and saw police lights.

At around midnight, a frantic scene was unfolding at Massachusetts General Hospital, where a dozen police cars arrived with sirens on and several women were brought in by police, looking deeply upset.

WATERTOWN, Mass. -- Friday morning in the Boston area began in a tense silence, as the sprawling manhunt for an alleged teenaged terrorist forced city residents indoors for their own safety. Friday night, however, ended with spontaneous parades celebrating his capture.

As 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was pulled wounded from his backyard boat hideout and raced to Beth Israel Hospital in police custody, many Bostonians finally exhaled, after a devastating week that began with the double bombings at Monday's Boston marathon. The suspect's brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, was killed Friday morning in a shootout with police.

"CAPTURED!!!" trumpeted the Boston Police Department on Twitter Friday night. "The hunt is over. The search is done. The terror is over. And justice has won. Suspect in custody."

And this:

I wonder... does the driver carjacked by the marathon terrorists still feel the same way now?

See the bumper sticker?  It is this one:

Does he still think that peaceful coexistence with those who kill in the name of their religion is possible?

Touchdown!!

During the press conference this evening, the question of whether Dzhokhar Tsarnaev had been read Miranda rights arose. Carmen Ortiz, the U.S. Attorney, noted that they had not read him the rights, but were employing the "public safety exception".  The following is a good explanation of the exception:

The Quarles Court made clear that only those questions necessary for the police "to secure their own safety or the safety of the public" were permitted under the public safety exception.35 In U.S. v. Khalil, New York City police officers raided an apartment in Brooklyn after they received information that Khalil and Abu Mezer had bombs in their apartment and were planning to detonate them.36 During the raid, both men were shot and wounded as one of them grabbed the gun of a police officer and the other crawled toward a black bag believed to contain a bomb. When the officers looked inside the black bag, they saw pipe bombs and observed that a switch on one bomb was flipped.

Officers went to the hospital to question Abu Mezer about the bombs. They asked Abu Mezer "how many bombs there were, how many switches were on each bomb, which wires should be cut to disarm the bombs, and whether there were any timers."37 Abu Mezer answered each question and also was asked whether he planned to kill himself in the explosion. He responded by saying, "Poof."38

Abu Mezer sought to suppress each of his statements, but the trial court permitted them, ruling that they fell within the public safety exception. On appeal, Abu Mezer only challenged the admissibility of the last question, whether he intended to kill himself when detonating the bombs. He claimed the question was unrelated to public safety. The circuit court disagreed and noted "Abu Mezer's vision as to whether or not he would survive his attempt to detonate the bomb had the potential for shedding light on the bomb's stability."39

A common theme throughout cases such as this is the importance of limiting the interrogation of a subject to questions directed at eliminating the emergency. Following Quarles, at least two federal circuit courts of appeals have addressed the issue of the effect of an invocation of a right on the exception. In U.S. v. De- Santis, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals held that the public safety exception applies even after the invocation of counsel.40 According to the court: "The same consideration that allows the police to dispense with providing Miranda warnings in a public safety situation also would permit them to dispense with the prophylactic safeguard that forbids initiating further questioning of an accused who requests counsel."41

In U.S. v. Mobley, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals also ruled that the public safety exception applied even when the subject had invoked his right to counsel.42 The court recognized that a threat to public safety still may exist even after Miranda rights are provided and invoked.

At least 7 IEDs were reportedly found in their home in Watertown, as well as other bomb making equipment. So the question of more bombs were a very real possibility and the exception likely wisely invoked.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev Getting His Head Punched As He Is Beaten During His Golden Gloves Match In 2009

His ticket has now been punched.

This picture shows Tamerlan Tsamaev (Suspect#1), left, fights Lamar Fenner during the 201-pound division boxing match during the 2009 Golden Gloves National Tournament of Champions in Salt Lake City.

From the Chicago Tribune:
A Chicago boxer hoping to go pro faced one of the Boston Marathon suspects in the ring in 2009 and beat him to go on to the Golden Gloves finals.

Lamar Fenner's record was 24-0 when he fought Tamerlan Tsarnaev in a national Golden Gloves tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Fenner bested him after getting up from an eight-count, but then lost to a boxer from Michigan in the finals. Fenner went on to join Team USA and died last December from natural causes at the age of 29.

Tsarnaev reportedly aspired to compete for the United States in the Olympics and planned to compete in this year's Golden Gloves finals. He was killed during a police chase in the Boston area overnight, and his brother escaped and remains at large — although Friday night multiple reports said a person is surrounded in the area where a massive manhunt was underway.

In 2009, Tsarnaev was representing Team New England when he entered the ring against Fenner.

A New York Times feature story on the suspected Boston terrorists showed Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in a sympathetic light, with the headline "Far From War-Torn Homeland, Trying To Fit In" and a black-and-white picture of one of the men.

They only killed an 8-year-old boy and three other people, you IDIOTS!

The New York Times: Far from war-torn homeland, trying to fit in.
The sympathetic portrayal of the men — who murdered three civilians, including a child, wounded 180 people, murdered one unsuspecting police officer and wounded another officer — was met with quick condemnation on social media networks.

http://dailycaller.com/2013/04/19/new-york-times-sympathy-for-the-devil/

The NYT scrubbed their headline, this is what it now looks like:

Authorities last night described these people as "not suspects". But they took them away in handcuffs, so there must have been at least some concern about safety, if not arrests; Daily Mail characterizes it as "arrests", which seems fair given the pictures:

The two men arrested last night in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings drive a car with the licence plate that reads: 'Terrorista #1'

The students, named by neighbours by their first names Azmat and Diaz, drive a black BMW 330XI with the personalised plate and a sticker on the back which reads: 'F*** you, you f****** f****'.

They are thought to be from Kazakhstan and had not been seen since the bombings until last night when their ground floor apartment in New Bedford, MA, was raided by a dozen FBI agents at gunpoint.

One of their girlfriends was also arrested. All three are in their late teens or early 20s.

Their apartment was raided because police say the younger Boston Marathon bombing suspect, 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, may have lived at their address.

MailOnline has discovered another link – Dzhokhar Tweeted pictures of the car on his Twitter account J_tsar.

In one picture the BMW is next to another dark coloured sports car with the caption: 'Place your bets' as if they are about to race.

In another a group of boys stand by both vehicles and a youth can be seen making a gesture that looks like a gun towards the camera.

The three arrests took place at the Hidden Brook housing complex in New Bedford.

A neighbour claimed that the men had said the BMW was stolen or that they claimed they had rented it and were not paying the rental fee.[/

Boston Terrorist Tamerlan Tsarnaev Kicked Out Of Mosque
Service After Screaming At Imam For Honoring Non-Muslim MLK Jr.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev... (who you see here taking a very long nap)... was thrown out of the mosque, the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center Mosque, about three months ago, after he stood up and shouted at the imam during a Friday prayer service, they said. The imam had held up slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. as an example of a man to emulate, recalled one worshiper who would give his name only as Muhammad.

Enraged, Tamerlan stood up and began shouting, Muhammad said.

"You cannot mention this guy because he's not a Muslim!" Muhammad recalled Tamerlan shouting, shocking others in attendance.

"He's crazy to me," Muhammad said. "He had an anger inside.... I can't explain what was in his mind."

Tamerlan was then kicked out of the prayer service for his outburst, Muhammad recalled. "You can't do that," Muhammad said of shouting at the imam.

Still, Tamerlan returned to Friday prayer services and had no further outbursts, Muhammad said.

NEW BEDFORD — Agents wearing FBI and Department of Homeland Security jackets detained two men at the Hidden Brook apartment complex just hours after releasing three people believed to be associated with Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

A neighbor who declined to identify herself said the same two men were among the three people taken into custody by the FBI Friday afternoon.

An FBI spokeswoman could not provide any information on the two men, both of whom were led away in handcuffs around 3:50 p.m. Saturday, or anything related to the apartment, citing the "ongoing" nature of the investigation.

Reports coming are getting weirder and weirder....

Report: Boston Terrorists May Have Had Suicide Pact, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Tried
To Blow His Brains Out, Bullet Tore Through His Neck Instead

The alleged Boston Marathon bomber is awake and responding to questions in his hospital bed.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is responding sporadically in writing to questions from investigators regarding other cell members and other unexploded bombs, law enforcement sources told ABC News.

The 19-year-old shoved his pistol in his own mouth and pulled the trigger as SWAT officers and federal agents closed in on the boat where he was hiding on Friday night. However, instead of killing him, the bullet simply tore through his neck.

Authorities initially said they couldn't question him because of the throat wound. CNN reports earlier today that Tsarnaev was 'intubated and sedated' at a Boston hospital.

The Boston police commissioner said Tsarnaev is in 'critical but stable' condition on Sunday – which appears to be a downgrade from reports earlier this weekend that his condition was only 'serious.'

Boston Mayor Tom Menino had earlier feared that federal agents would never be able to interview Tsarnaev but it seems that investigators may already be making progress.

Police sources told MailOnline that investigators are looking into the possibility that Tsarnaev and his older brother Tamerlan had a suicide pact so that neither of them could be taken alive and put on trial. Authorities believe Dzhokhar likely killed him brother, who was handcuffed, when he ran over him.

A suicide pact could also explain why 19-year-old Dzhokhar ran over his own brother in his stolen Mercedes SUV as he escaped from the scene, the sources added.

Liberal Hopes For Right Wing Extremism Dashed in Boston

20th April 2013
by Scott Kirwin

So contrary to the hopes of some on the Left, the bombers of the Boston Marathon are not white tea party types like myself but Muslims from Chechnya. Dzhokar A. Tsarnaev, 19, and his brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, had been in the country for several years. One of the assumptions made by liberals about Islamists is that they misunderstand us, that if they only got to know us better (and if we stopped blowing them up in their homeland and supporting the evil Jews) they'd like us and wouldn't want to harm us. Attacks like 9-11, the thwarted Time Square bombing, and the Fort Hood Shooting are in the eyes of liberals based on ignorance just as much as they are on misguided foreign policy.

Cases like the Tsarnaev brothers undermine the "they don't understand us" argument originally put forward by Erasmus 500 years ago, as do the inconvenient facts that all of the 9-11 hijackers as well as the plotters including Osama bin Laden himself spent years studying in the United States and the West. These men are not ignorant, and to imply that they are shows an elitist and racist arrogance that liberals would abhor if they could see themselves from a perspective other than their own.

I don't believe I am stuffing a straw man when I write that to a greater degree an American liberal believes the following:

1. Atheism is the sign of an enlightened mind.
2. All religions are the same, based on ignorance, and the enemies of knowledge.
3. Women are the equal of men and should be treated as such in all spheres both public and private.
4. Western culture is inferior to other cultures, or at best, equivalent.
5. Sexual freedom is the greatest expression of personal freedom.

In the US there are no doubt several protestant denominations of Christianity that would agree with at least some of these propositions. The most liberal sect of Islam I know of is the Ismaili sect, and even that sect would disagree with all of the propositions. Do you think Tamarlan Tsarnaev believed in any of those propositions with the possible exception of western inferiority (or rather did, evidently blowing himself up before capture)?

My abhorrence of Islam isn't based on fear or ignorance. I've read the Koran and more importantly, the Hadith, or interpretations of the Koran in the centuries following Muhammad's death. I've lived in a Muslim country, eaten halal food and have celebrated Muslim holidays. I have studied Islam and its history and although do not consider myself an expert on either I know my way around the religion well enough so that I can confidently say that I know what I don't know. How many liberals have done the same? A liberal looks at the Muslim community and blames American conservatives for Islamic extremism. I look at the Umma... (A community of faithful within Islam: within Islam, the community of the faithful that transcended long-established tribal boundaries to create a degree of political unity) ...and wonder why, based on the teachings of Muhammad and the interpretations found in the Hadith, all Muslims aren't Islamic extremists. Muslims have a pretty good idea of what American life and life in general in the West is like, and the truth is that a sizeable minority of them don't like it.

These Muslims find the idea of a government without G-d just as abhorrent as liberals find a government with G-d. Islam makes it clear that all law derives ultimately from Allah through his prophet Muhammad, which is why the Hadith sprung up to handle legal questions that Muhammad himself didn't address while alive. By this logic Western society and the Shi'a heretics who accept a limited separation between religion and state is heretical by its very existence, and lacking Allah's support, weak and Evil. In Islam there is no freedom in the Western sense of the word; instead there is a freedom that comes through submission, a type which any pre-Enlightenment European, fundamentalist Christian married woman or perhaps any dedicated servant or slave could relate to, but a concept which would be completely alien to most raised in the post-Enlightenment West. What liberals refuse to understand is that the message of Islam, of complete submission to Allah, can be appealing on its own. The idea that a man like Osama bin Laden, born of wealth, educated in the finest schools in the West would choose a philosophy where women have few rights, homosexuality does not exist, and unbelievers are allowed to live only as future converts to Islam over the Leftist paradise of sexual and economic equality must rankle the liberal, if she would only allow herself to be rankled. I suppose it is possible. After all, Charles Krauthammer, David Horowitz and are ex-liberals as am I.

Charles Krauthammer once wrote Conservatives think Liberals are stupid, whereas Liberals think Conservatives are Evil. What's ironic is that libertarians and their conservative allies feel towards Liberals the same way Liberals feel about Muslims, that they are ignorant and misguided, that if they just understood us better they'd like us. But unfortunately Liberals see us the way we see jihadists, as enemies meant to be crushed. How else to explain the vain hope by the Left that the bombers turned out to be white men from the Right? And how sad?

Isn't terrorism supposed to provoke terror?  Because it seems to me the only thing the bombings at the Boston Marathon have provoked is anger.  Maybe we need a new word for such acts, furyism, because I'm not seeing any terror or fear, just pure white-hot anger.
