It rained on the eastern seaboard. For more info visit CNN, HLN, FOX, ABC, CBS or NBC.
In other, less important, news drought conditions persist over most of the southern plains. Cattle & crop shortages expected in months to come, unemployment remains high, world economy in shambles, inflation looms on the horizon and there are drug shortages at medical facilities across the nation.
But please, don't worry about these things, they are relatively minor compared to the closure of Atlantic City casinos.
State/government sponsored gambling just shows how crooked gov't is nowdays.
This just in:
President Obummer will be meeting with top officials later today (Sunday) to discuss the federal govt response to Irene.
Oh, Mr Prez, what about our economy and the mess that your admin continues to stir in that arena? How was your vacation?
Red, I'm not sure what you mean, please explain.
Patriot, if you don't think Irene hasn't had and will have an economic impact, you are much more ignorant of economics than I thought. Those NJ casinos employ thousands and the spin off jobs from food, supplies, truck drivers, buses etc. is huge. The beaches and piers are used too. As far as the news coverage...we can't control that. It's fresh and new and will keep them busy for awhile, but the other problems will still be there to cover when this blows over. Like the pun? ;)
We haven't had a storm actually get here as still a hurricane since Hazel in Oct. 1954. I remember her all too well. Usually, when they get up here, they are strong tropical storms, which are deadly in of themselves.
The wind is still blowing very hard here, but it's not raining. This is a very deadly time. People go out and get crushed by falling trees or kids go out to play in the storm water, get swept away and drown. If the Reb. states are true to their platform, they will not accept any federal disaster relief money and do without. Let's see what they do.
Diane, glad tohear you're okay. Stay safe!
Darling Diane,
We really are glad you are OK. But, most here are well aware of your oft repeated reminders that the freakin universe revolves around your little house in Delaware and the rest of the Least Coast. We realize that 1 or 2 inches of water in your precious basement could disrupt all of God's creation. In a gesture of sincere concern for your highness and life on earth as we know it, I provide the following link:

If things are so miserable, WTF are you doing wasting precious time here? Attention? Surely there are other locals who could use your expertise and assistance. If 9/11 didn't kill us, a day or three losses of gambling revenues in Atlantic City surely won't.
Just a reminder: in 2010, more than 7 times as many lives were lost in traffic accidents alone in America each and every day as were lost to your vicious tropical storm, Irene. How about just considering your butt very fortunate and moving on. Many others suffer far more every day in this world than you folks have in the last day. Seriously, get a grip!
I'm sorry you don't enjoy casual conversation, but there are those on here who do. Nobody makes you read what I write.
I hardly think the world revolves around my place and there are some who do enjoy hearing about the east coast.
I enjoy hearing about all the activities out there and in the other states that forum members live in. It's a shame you don't.
By the way, my basement is hardly "precious", it's just laundry room, canned goods and shop. 'What am I doing here?" My job was done early this morning. We are an hour ahead of you. Other shifts are handling things, but if called, which I doubt ,I'd be a replacement again. Swift water rescue is for the young ones.
As far as throwing statics at me. Anybody can do that anytime after any incident. So what. I hadn't planned to say much more anyway but maybe now I will, just to annoy you. Funny,I don't remember you being listed as topic critic and boss. Just deal with it.
Greatguns, thanks. I'm sorry if I bored you.
This thread was originally about the excessive, overbearing and rather boring national news coverage of what hasn't turned out to be the disaster of the century. That still stands, especially since we have you here for first hand updates on at least 2 or 3 threads. Any new deaths in Afghanistan, Iraq, Japan or along the US/Mexico border lately? More info on Iran moving its' nuclear production underground?
News? It's really wet and messy on the east coast. Yes, we heard.
Wait a minute....

Good morning! The deep rain shields have passed, but it's still spitting rain and very blustery. So far we've got some water in the basement and small branches all over but no obvious damage. It's still too windy to go out and give the house a good look see, too many swinging trees.

So at 1059 Eastern it was too windy to leave the house and by 1307 Eastern you were done with your (implied) shift? And you've been here that whole time as well?
Wow. Must have been a really short shift. Was the tour of duty in front of your computer at home? ???
At least make the stories believable.
Glad to hear you're doing OK, Diane...Hang in there. ;D
It's really sad that Patriot thinks he should know what I did this morning ,where it was and what value it had. Patriot, what is your reading COMPREHENSION level? Go back and read what I really said...job ,not shift. "If" was called...replacement ..I didn't say doing what, now did I?
I'm not on the front line for this event, never said I was,the younger ones handlled the tough stuff and walking around my yard and being out in a car would hardly be the same, plus I don't drive in my yard. (I guess he does.) Yes, we do communicate by phone, radio, pager and e-mail. I must remember to have a deputy chief get authority and permission from Mr. BIG SHOT next time. I do not owe Patriot or anyone else an explanation. After all, it was just a tiny little shower. What he doesn't know, he really doesn't know and assumes if he doesn't know it, isn't worth knowing.
How did it become so fashionable to make a few of us targets, no matter what we say about anything. It didn't used to be that way.
I'm disgusted. I guess I'll never understand why casual friendly conversation is poison to some on here. It's not sport if it isn't angry or twisted around to be critical of someone some how.
It was said by one of the early "members" of the forum, who no longer posts,"It's a shame "names" were allowed to ruin the forum. I know just what he means. Moving on.
Cat, thanks.
I believe I said 'implied' shift.
As for the rest of your ramblings, IMO, you're a drama queen seeking to enhance other folks view of you by being a victim one minute, a martyr the next, or an expert in all things the next. So be it.
Diane, I am so glad you are still okay. I know from experience you have a lot of hours ahead before things return to normal.
Yes, but since it seems to produce bad feelings that's all I'll say. Thanks
Oh, like any of what the peanut section has to say is important...LOL...You just keep on with the keeping on, Diane. I'm proud of you!! ;D
wow!! when did this get to be a Patriot and a Diane fest?
I must have missed a few threads.
Diane...Glad that you are safe.
Patriot...The world's Politics are very important. We really need to educate people into the real workings, as opposed to what we hear.
The home front is what we need to protect, before we even venture out to take care of the other stuff.
Now, this may sound rude to some:
Some are pompous and always right....therefore we are wrong.
Some are dramatic and downright rude, but they are right.
I just like to get on this forum, think, listen, learn, drink beer and take naps on Saturdays.
Am I right or wrong?
not sure if I am ready
Thanks, Ready. I just wish I would be considered right EVER. Being told I'm always wrong all the time is hard on the soul. Maybe once a week would be nice. ;D ;D ;D
ok Diane:
you are right on that one!
ready ;D
QuoteMaybe once a week would be nice.
I gave this my Sunday's best.
But you only asked for once a week.
;D
ready
LOL... ;D ;D ;D...Diane and Ready, you both are gems...Thank God there those out there like you!! ;D
Well, God put Patriot, Ross, David, Hoss baca out there too!
Love the person, not the diatribe...(paraphrased.)
:P
ready
QuoteThank God there those out there like you!!
Lord help Elk County if Diane and we agree on some things!
However, thank you for that, Cat.
You are very welcome, Ready...It is fun to read you! ;D
I shouldn't be so ornery...It is just that it is so much fun to yank a few chains and watch the jumping start...It's not fair to do it to them, I know. They are so in earnest...And I'm sittin' back, grinning. God's gonna get me yet! lol
Shame on me... ;D
In due time, Cat....in due time.
The GOVERMNENT will no longer be blamed...however, wish you well on your trip. (no disrespect for the living)
ready
LOL ;D
WOW! Diane, the peanut section really does think you are important. They apparently think you control all the so called news networks. I am truely glad that Irene wsn't as bad as they thought it would be.
