Really? OK! The beautiful thing about forums is there are links. These links can be clicked on and when done so they take you to a page where you can read stuff people have posted. If you have a problem with someone's has posted you are able to click the back button and never have to click the link again! Its an amazing feat of technology!

Another cool thing you can do is click reply or quote and can post construction criticism, facts, or personal opinions like a lot of people do. You are also able to try demeaning people or call them names, like you seem to have a knack of, but usually that only makes you look bad.

Was that insulting enough? I'm sure I could do better but it just isn't worth it. I don't particularly get much enjoyment out of doing something like that but... yeah... I'm just going to click the Post button now and click another link. Have a nice day! ;D

Wow! You can do all that  :o Why don't you start a thread to teach everyone how to use their phone as well? ::)

They"re not vultures , mrsC.  Vultures wait until somethings dead. More like cockroaches that love trash and garbage. And they don't want to fix things , just whine and complain that those who attempt to fix things aren't doing it right and are stealing the money.

Uhh... what?? I am complaining because they are doing the exact opposite. The things they are doing are a known fact that historically have never worked.

Please do yourself a favor, go out and do some research on government and history and you'll find just how wrong you are.

Do yourself a favor and do some research on Elk county history . Who decided where the county seat is, and why? Who made the local ordinances, and why? Turn off your TV, Twitter, and Facebook for a while and spend some time talking , in person , with the elders who live here, all of Elk county. The Cookson name is well known, a family that has given much and participated in making Elk county what it is today. Not to omit Wiseman, Wunderlich, Rader,Perkins, Gragg, Gray,Miller,Hebb,Coble, Clubine,Bauder, etc. and I know I am missing many. Point is, they are the founders of this part of the county, and while not perfect, have done a good job with what they had/have in my opinion.

I refrained just yesterday from calling a parent after having their son fly by me chasing another car doing 60 MPH on a gravel road because I knew it would do no good. I lost a good friend in High school doing just that, when he lost control and rolled, no seat belts in those days, ejected and crushed. There were 5 youths total in these vehicles yesterday, and one mistake would have killed them all. That is the kind of "freedom" I hear you speaking about. Where but in Howard can you see children racing ATV's up and down the streets. And what happens when they hit a small child ( or loose dog) and kill someone ?

If you want to fault the city for their priorities, start with public safety. This stuff is allowed to go on because of your "freedom". How is it you can be ticketed for , no seat belt, speeding, lights not working, etc. in your "street legal" vehicle when dirt bikes, ATV's golf carts don't .

Just curious as to your opinion . ::)

And just what are these "things" they have done that are so historically flawed? Elaborate.

Sooooo.... you're saying that for as long as this county has been around, every local leader has mismanaged and overspent our money?

Where have I EVER said that freedom includes breaking the speed limit? Now... if they were on their own personal property and had their own personal road I don't care if they even wanted to take a Top Fuel drag car up to 300+ mph, they should definitely have the freedom to do what they want on their own property.

Most golf carts have a top speed of around 12 to 15 mph, from what I've seen. A bicycle can travel that fast, actually faster if you put some effort into it (world record without any external aid and on level ground is right under 83 MPH). We going to ban bicycles now?

I have no issue with someone driving what they want in town as long as they do it safely and obey traffic laws (i.e. stop, yield, etc).

Oh and you can't be ticketed for not having seat belts on when riding a dirt bike, ATV, whatever else because uhh... they don't have them. If someone is speeding on them and not getting a ticket, its because either an officer wasn't around or they just decided not to. I'm sure an officer is perfectly capable of ticketing someone for speeding regardless of the vehicle.

Also, a seat belt law should not exist. Speeding, running stop lights and signs, ignoring yields, etc. all can easily harm others. Not wearing your seat belt can in no way harm anyone else.

Or that historicalyl bad behavior justifies bad behavior today?  But, but, but... we've always done it thus n so.

The best justification I heard for seat belt laws is that officials aren't really concerned about the safety aspects, but rather that the ambulance drivers are too lazy to look for the bodies.   ???

MT, I wouldn't expect you do know this, but not wearing a seat belt CAN harm others. Just think what happens when unrestrained objects in a vehicle are tossed around during an accident. We have had many, many cases where heads and faces thunked together in unrestrained front and back seat passengers and created severe injuries. I won't overstate this but wearing seat belts is one of the most important things you can do to save yourself, your companions and the agony of your family. I've seen it all.
Actually, we have had to look for tossed bodies, but usually from motorcycle accidents. People thrown out of cars are usually close by or crushed under the car. Want more?  Ever ride "The Convincer?" Restrained drivers are also better drivers, but that's another story.

Now that does makes sense. I highly doubt that's the reason the laws were created though (money probably being the main reason really). As you mentioned, objects could cause equally as harmful injuries yet they don't have any laws saying no loose objects are allowed in the car. Imagine how many tickets they could hand out then. :o

That does remind me of this video that went around a while back though:

Regardless, I don't actually condone driving without a seat belt. In the majority of cases they will save your life. I always wear mine when leaving town. I just don't believe the state(s) should force people to wear their seat belts.

Yes, unrestrained objects do cause injuries in car accidents and that fact is included in Defensive Driving classes. Things should be secured with belts and nets whenever possible.
I can't imagine a law would ever pass demanding it though because car design and the crumple zones etc. help so much now as it is. I've helped people in accidents that lived now that absolutely would not have survived back in the 60's.
