OUR MILITARY IS FACING A PERFECT STORM

I guess I really don't understand the problem. What do straight males in civilian life do if approached by a gay male ? They can't say no, not interested and that's the end of it? They get all red faced and lose the ability to talk? Are our soldiers afraid some guy will sneak up on them at night? These tough young men turn into mush at the idea of being approached? What happened to"just say no?" I doubt gay males are on the make all the time, any more than the rest of males are in the military. No, they shouldn't have to have different housing, and no gay males should not take advantage of the situation and should be disciplined if they do. They need to understand that their presence does make some men uncomfortable. I have talked to some friends about this before.
"Men who are secure with their own masculinity will have no problem." That's a quote from one of my young marine friends who is thankfully home now to stay. Perhaps straight men should have a little training in how to say no since it doesn't seem to come naturally. I'm sure in battle they all have the same thing in mind... do your job and don't die. So our soldiers are going to quit rather than learn to deal with it? I wonder how many straight military males have ever actually had an unwanted encounter? Is the problem "real or rumor?" Is it a lot of "what ifs?" I gather from what I read recently there aren't a lot of extra qualified, trainable people beating down the gates to join up. Perhaps they better learn to live with what they can get. Patriots come in all sorts. Can we afford to waste any?
Front line combat troops do not want queers serving in the ranks, period. That is the only thing that should be considered.
Do you always expect to get what you want? Just out of curiosity, I wonder how many of the enemy military are gay? That would make being captured interesting.
You're right Diane, lets just take our fighting men, put them in harms way, expect them to die for country, seperate them from their families, not pay them very much, and then when we want to make a change in policy, not ask for their input whatsoever. I mean afterall, who cares what they think they're just soldiers right? They're just the ones doing the fighting and dying while our gov't forces changes on them without so much as asking for their opinion on it, all in the name of being Politically Correct.
Just out of curiosity, how can a person say that they support our troops when they don't consider what the troops want?

They are paid to do a job.... they volunteer to join... if they do not like the conditions, they should not enlist.
Varmit,
I wondered how long it would take our military hating, arm chair General, from the north to weigh in on this---didn't take long for him to crawl out from under his rock and spew sewage from his pie hole on matters he knows nothing about. If he wants to say that's a personal attack, then so be it. He looks down his nose at the very people that gave him the freedom to speak his mind.
Diane, I have no doubt if you say your Marine friend said he has no problem with them lifting the DADT policy---then he must of said it, but I an in contact with many, many non active duty Marines and talk to quite a few active duty Marines and I have yet to talk to a single one that wants the ban lifted---not a one. General Conway, the Commandant of the Corps, says if the gays are permitted to serve openly they will be housed in separate barracks as long as he's commandant. No doubt if he don't retire first he will be relieved of command when the time comes. I don't know why I even worry about it. My senior drill instructor from back in 1968 is a retired Sgt Maj, He served 3 tours on the drill field sandwiched between his three tours in Nam. He retired in 1979 but even last Nov 10th was the guest speaker at MCRD, Drill Instructor school, San Diego, for the Marine Corps birthday ball. His name is still on a plaque at MCRD for putting more honor platoons thru than any other DI. I tell you this just so you know the man has been around . He says although one might slip through the cracks just like they've always done, the active duty DI's will give the boot to anyone they think that might be homosexual, and it aint too hard for them to find a reason to give anyone the boot. Is that the right thing to do ?? I don't know but the Corps has a pretty good track record for doing things their way and it seems to work.
Jerry, I would really, really like to meet you in person. By the way...do the letters F Y mean anything to ya?

Yes, they show your maturity. BTW, funny how you think that violence (which I assume that your "desire" to meet me in person means) will display how your opinion is correct.

Yes, jarhead, to disagree with you or to state a contrary opinion is hating the military. Shows how well you understand English. Typically tired old thread about to disagree with you means I don't support the military... grow up, find a new storyline. We can have contrary opinions and still support the military. My father, grandfather and great grandfather all served and I support their devotion especially since none of them had a choice in the matter, doesn't mean that I cannot disagree with policy.
Jerry,
I wouldn't want Varmet to hurt you. I think you're a funny little feller.

Has nothing to do with displaying how my opinion is correct or not. Assume whatever you want to jerry.
As far as our military is concerned, alot of the troops that don't want queers in the ranks are career soldiers, served 10, 15, or 20 years, they were there before the adminstration even considered lifting the ban on homosexuals. So why should they have to leave? Leave the policy as is, afterall, if the queers don't like the conditions then they don't have to enlist.
You say that you don't hate the military yet you accuse the troops of doing the job just for a paycheck. That is an insult to anyone who has ever put on the uniform.
It wouldn't surprise me twirldoggy, usually once their discovered, they get a blanket party or if in the field, they get fragged.
Twirl, I'm so sorry that happened. I do hope that was an unusual exception. Officers should know better! They know how sensitive that subject is. Wouldn't it be nice if the kazillion girls and women who are molested by someone every year got some kind of monetary compensation too? It's a sad thing all around. And I mean all, not just military.
LOL Come on, Diane...You know women are expendable. Case in point...Lorena Bobbit...When she decided to slice and dice, they had the entire police force out there looking for his dismembered vienna sausage...If that had been a woman's chest ornament that had been out there, do you think there would have been nearly as much effort put out to find it??? I somehow doubt it...

Let me just say that I value women's chest ornaments much more than I value any of the vienna sausage of mr bobbit.
Also, this thread amuses me, I haven't seen anyone try to arrange a fight on the internet since I played online computer games back in high school. Kudos to you varmit, you made me smile. now meet me in the tennis court in town tomorrow at 11:34 am. if you are 10 seconds late, i won't be there. You are going down!
LOLOLOL, Cat, if it had been a woman's chest ornament, the entire male population of the town would have been out there looking for it!
Larryj
Are you kidding? Why, you know the good old boys don't play tennis or golf or polo, or water ski. They don't even wear shorts! Their scabby knees might show. Now fishing would work. Who ever gets the biggest cat can bean the other with it. ;D

Diane, Grenola actually has a tennis court in town if i remember correctly. I'm sure the cadre of ultra right wing neocons will create a 3 page post calling me names if i'm wrong.
Remember, Anmar...The only thing worse than being talked about...Is NOT being talked about! lol
But isn't it just the gentle women who play? I can just see Varmit with white shorts and a tennis racket! ;D ;D ;D poke, poke!
I don't think Ive seen a soul, men woman or otherwise on that tennis court. Now i don't live in grenola, so I wouldn't know for sure.
I'm sitting here reading all these posts --and for the life of me, I can't understand you, Diane. Why in the world do you CONSTANTLY rag on every subject and say what you just did about Varmit???? How do you know if he can play tennis or not?? And what difference does it make if he does or does not?
I JUST DON'T GET IT !!!
No harm done Jo, she was just making a jab, no big deal.
Anmar, I never tried to arrange a fight with anyone, all I said was that I'd like to meet jerry in person. As far as meeting you at the tennis court, no can do, I'll be at work.
Varmit, honest it was just meant to be harmless teasing, which apparently I am not allowed to do. You guys rag on me a lot but I don't have the same privilege? I never called any of you a Nazi! Varmit, I didn't know your feeling were so tender as to have to have someone take up for you. BOO-HOO. Lightning has struck me once again so I'll apologize, and leave AGAIN so I can once AGAIN be called a Nazi while I'm gone. Guess I just don't know the rules on this forum. Some of you can say very hurtful things in every post and rarely is anything said, but when I haven't even been on for a couple of weeks I get slammed and that's OK. So you can go back to giving one sided ''lectures'' instead of having two or more in conversations and debates.
Diane, you missed the point completely.
Diane, jeez...you're such an EmotioNazi ;) ...I was trying to actually stick up for you for a change...but NooOOO...you had to start with the personal "nazi" attacks and the Boo-Hooing and making with the Lightning and threats to leave...I was just trying to have an actual conversation  but you had to start with the feelinazi bit...I don't see why you have to be so hurtful all the time :'( (poke poke jaB PUNCH KICK) ;D
Varmit, I wasn't reacting to you. I didn't appreciate being hit by lightning again both on and off the forum. I didn't know I had done anything to have to be stuck up for! I still don't know what I said that set them them off. Nor why Jo thought she had to stick up for you! What difference does whether you do or don't play tennis have to do with what you guys had been saying. No, of course tennis is isn't a sissy game nor did I say it was. I have no idea what you look like and I was just trying to picture you and Anmar swatting tennis balls at each other and decided that out there a fishing contest might make more sense. It went right over every bodies head. By the way it was Steve that called me the Nazi. I did say I was sorry, although I still don't know what for. I had been off here for more than 2 weeks working on a fire house project, and as soon as I came back the picking at me started again. I do NOT comment on every thread, and so what if I do for several times during a discussion. I thought that was how forum discussions worked. You have give and take until it naturally runs out. I'll have to tell my friends on another forum they are doing it all wrong. As far as leaving, I think I'll just stay around a be a burr under a few saddles. You all think you have me figured out but you are so wrong. If I'm so awful, why do you think I have contacted literally hundreds of people on the east coast to vote for Sedan on the fire engine contest. I have no idea how many of my contacts will vote, but I know of a whole bunch that already have. I'm getting ready to put reminder posters in each my stations and an all call on the e-mail. Am I just making a fool of myself for caring about some people I don't know who are outside my own group?
By the way, ya try to kick me I'll lay ya out with a big 20 pound rock fish. Then we can bake it and have lunch. Good eating!
