James "Alfred" Burdett of Sedan, Kansas passed away Thursday afternoon, May 6, 2010 at the Sedan City Hospital.  Born January 7, 1919 in Leeds, Kansas, he was the son of Silas Russell and Mamie Anne (Lambert) Burdett.  

He was raised and received his education in Leeds and later graduated from Cedar Vale High School in Cedar Vale, Kansas.  He was united in marriage to Leona Fern on March 25, 1939 in Winfield, Kansas.  Alfred was a farmer.  He also raised paint horses.  Mrs. Burdett preceded him in death on April 4, 2008.

His family includes his daughters, Nedra Ann Burdett and Janet L. Evans, both of Sedan, Kansas; his grandsons, Richard A. Evans, Nelson D. Evans, and Jamews A.M. Evans; his 9 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Lambert Allen Burdett of Grenola, Kansas; his sister, Mary Alice Allison of Grenola, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  

In addition to his parents and his wife, Alfred was preceded in death by his brother, Sam Burdett, and his sister, Alma Bainter.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning, May 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E. 9th, Winfield, Kansas 67156.  Interment will follow at Cedar Vale Cemetery in Cedar Vale, Kansas.  Memorials have been established in Alfred's name for the American Cancer Society, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, and the Sedan Senior Center.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
