Forum folks might remember the subject of Roanoke Island from their history class studies.

A Virginia colony on Roanoke Island completely disappeared around 1590 leaving only a scribbled sign that said "Croatoan."

Follow on colonists from Britain were never able to find any evidence of what happened to them. There was one possibility that they were massacred by the Croatoan tribe. Another theory was that the starving colonists integrated into the Croatoan tribe.

A U.K. professor has decided to set up a DNA testing bank for the citizens of the British town the Virginians originated from when they settled on Roanoke Island.

He is going to set up another DNA bank among the Croatoan tribe and compare those results to the U.K. test bank.

That should be a fascinating study! I've been there several times .It is a very pretty and interesting place. There has always been a lot of speculation as to what happened, but no solid evidence. They aren't even sure the sign was really made by any of them. You do know it's N.C. right?
