Leon Kathryn (Fulton) Williams, 90, of Independence, Kansas, died Wednesday evening, April 7, 2010, at Windsor Place in Independence, Kansas.  She was born January 7, 1920 at Assaria, Kansas, the daughter of Frances "Frank" Leroy Fulton and Rebecca Madge (Mayer) Fulton.  

She attended school in Hurdin, Missouri where she moved at an early age with her family.  She was a homemaker for the majority of her life but had worked at ACC in Independence for 18 years where she was a packer in the Packing Department from which she retired in 1990.  She was a devoted member of the First Southern Baptist Church where she had worked in the nursery, kitchen, and prayer chains.  Leon enjoyed quilting and had made quilts for all her children and great-great-grandchildren. She also had a passion for cooking and especially making pies.

On March 10, 1937, she was united in marriage at Saguache, Colorado to Curtis Williams where she had met him during the Depression at Center, Colorado. Curtis and Leon made their home in Colorado and then Elk City, Kansas before moving to Independence in 1960.  Mr. Williams preceded his wife in death on August 13, 1970.  

Survivors include four sons, Richard Williams and wife Audra of Sedan, Kansas, Ben Williams and wife Karen of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Terry Williams and wife Sandy of Kempton, Pennsylvania, and Tim Williams and wife Debbie of Elk Falls, Kansas; seven daughters, Etta Shanks and husband Jerry Paul, Kathy Brown and husband Steven, Carol Bath and husband G. Boyd, all of Independence, Kansas, LaDonna Pickett and husband Bill of Longton, Kansas, Wanda Pate of Wichita, Kansas, Veva Schwatken and husband Wilbur of Elk City, Kansas, and Rebecca Elaine Workman and husband Richard of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Jack Fulton and wife Justine of Sparks, Nevada; two sisters, Hazel Williams of Hutchinson, Kansas and Charlotte Allen of Lake Tahoe, Nevada; 29 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Frank Eugene Williams; three grandchildren; four brothers, Kenneth Fulton, Leslie Fulton, Warren Fulton, and James Fulton; and one sister, Dottie Finnen.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 12, 2010 at the First Southern Baptist Church in Independence, Kansas with the Reverend Gerald Eytcheson of the Episcopal Church Epiphany of Independence officiating.  Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas.  Friends may call at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel, 306 W. Main, Independence, Kansas 67301 from noon until 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, 2010 with family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The family has suggested memorial remembrances to the First Southern Baptist Church Nursery Fund in Independence,and remembrances will be received at the funeral home.
