Mrs. Mary Ilene Dewey, 83, of Independence, Kansas, died Friday evening, March 19, 2010, at Mercy Hospital in Independence shortly after being admitted.  She was born on December 16, 1926 near Sedan, Kansas, the daughter of Denver J. Burch and Sadie J. (Mayberry) Burch.  She attended schools in the Sedan area.

On August 18, 1948 in rural Sedan, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Leonard L. Dewey.  The couple moved to Independence in 1952.  Mr Dewey survives his wife at the home.  Also surviving is one son, Larry Gene Dewey of Parsons, Kansas.

Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the Longton Cemetery, Longton, Kansas with Pastor Steve Butler of the Community Christian Church of Independence officiating.  Interment was under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel, 306 W. Main, Independence, Kansas 67301.
