Mary Katharine "Kay" (Snair) Fox passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 in Oceanside, California.  She was born March 22, 1923 in the Bethel Chapel neighborhood south of Grenola, Kansas to Arnold and Jessie Snair.

Kay grew up on a farm attending a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Grenola High School in 1941.  While working for the newspaper in Dodge City, Kansas, she met her future husband, Stewart Fox, a Captain in the Air Force.  They moved to Southern California, eventually settling in Riverside for 31 years where she was active in her church and was a teacher and later Director at a large preschool.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Stewart Fox; her children, Lynnda Blondin and Carolyn Williams (Mark); 6 grandsons and 2 twin great-grandsons.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gwen Licko, and grandson, Jeremy Camirand.

A graveside service was held on Monday, February 8, 2010 at Riverside National Cemetery followed by a reception.  Miller-Jones Mortuary of Sun City, California was in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Sweet had an article about Katharine Snair Fox in the "Grenola Now and Then" column in the March 3, 2010 Prairie Star.  I found it interesting and did a search for her obituary.  She was the sister of Jean Horn of Moline and Bob Snair of Phoenix, Arizona, and was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Snair Burrows, although they were not listed in the California obituary.   Mary Katharine and her sister, Betty, worked as linotype operators for the publisher of the Grenola Gazette in the 1930s and 1940s and both continued in the newspaper business after they left the Grenola area.
