First there were eleven teams.  Ottawa, Parsons, Pleasanton, Iola, Caney, Chanute, Central Heights, Marmaton Valley, Uniontown, Yates Center, and West Elk.

Bigger schools with bigger programs have more opportunities and tools available.

Then there was the contests...

Ottawa 25            West Elk 80
Parsons 30             West Elk 90
Pleasanton 30         West Elk 75
Iola 40               West Elk 70
Caney 25                West Elk 80
Chanute 50       West Elk 80
Central Heights 35        West Elk 55
Marmaton Valley 30        West Elk 100
Uniontown 10             West Elk 100

Then there was one victor      WEST ELK.

This sounds great! Make sure the school gets us some information for the paper.
It truly is "a wonderful life."

What a great accomplishment!!!!!!  I am so proud of our small town kids who are so dedicated, along with their coaches and sponsors!!!  This takes a lot of effort and extra time, and I hope West Elk will get the information to the paper so this good news can be shared.  It also makes our entire school system look pretty strong because these students don't excel JUST because they go to Scholars Bowl practice--they have had a broad background of educational experiences starting in Kindergarten and building on that base through all their school years.  Job well done!!!!!!!

Those scores are awesome!  Good job West Elk scholars bowl team and coach!  If only people got as fired up about this kind of news--outstanding scholars, awesome representation of our school district, terrific activity to support students in academics--as they do about the negative stuff.

Congratulations West Elk Scholars Bowl team and coach.  Keep up the good work and continue to represent our school district in such a positive way.

What also needs to be mentioned is that our "B" team came in 3rd in that same tournament!

Our Junior High students this year are just awesome!
