Betty Jean Allen, age 79, a resident of Independence, Kansas and formerly of Carthage, Missouri, passed away Monday, February 1, 2010 at her home.  She was born on November 14, 1930 in Winfield, Kansas, the daughter of Roy William and Nelia Alice (Gates) Savage.

After graduating high school, she went on to earn her Associate's Degree.  On February 17, 1951, Betty was united in marriage to Ray R. Allen in Coffeyville, Kansas.  Betty was a homemaker.  She did work outside of the home for A.C.C. in Independence, Citizens National Bank, and also in a laundromat.

Betty is survived by one son, Roy Allen of Independence, Kansas; two grandsons; and one great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray Allen on March 3, 2003; and one sister.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2010 at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, Kansas with Pastor Robin Haines officiating.  Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 until 12:00 noon at Zimmerman Funeral Home, Howard, Kansas.
