Gena Alene Stewart, daughter of the late Thomas Dowe Sanborn and Elevessa Amanda (Myers) Sanborn, was born May 10, 1917 at Lowe, Kansas and departed this life on January 28, 2010 in Alva, Oklahoma at the age of 92 years, 9 months, and 18 days.  She was raised in the Lowe, Kansas area and attended Lowe School through the eighth grade.  At age 73, she received her GED at Independence, Kansas.

On June 11, 1944, she was united in marriage to Leo M. Stewart at Sedan, Kansas.  To this union they were blessed with one daughter, Linda.  She was an active member of the Belknap Senior Citizens and Belknap Community Church.  She loved cooking, growing flowers, crocheting and quilting, playing dominoes, and taking walks with her dog, Sandy.  Most of all, she enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved being with friends and family.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Stewart; 4 brothers, Otis, Kyle, Vern, and Herman Sanborn; one sister, Doyla Foster; and one great-grandson, Zachary Chance Stinson.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda and husband Larry Hutchison of Waynoka, Oklahoma; 2 sisters, Theora and husband Bob Taggart of Iola, Kansas and Barbara Wilcoxin of Girard, Kansas; three grandchildren, Lori Sample and husband Bret, Rebecca Hutchison, and Lindsay Seaman and husband Bart, all of Waynoka, Oklahoma; 5 great-grandchildren, Sarah Stinson, Rylee Sample, Lainey and Alivia Seaman, and Derik Miller; and a host of relatives and good friends.

Family and friends may call on Monday, February 1, 2010 from 12:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas.  Church services will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Belknap Community Church in rural Belknap, Kansas.  Burial will follow at the Belknap Cemetery.

The family has suggested memorials to the Belknap Community Church or Belknap Senior Citizens in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, KS 67361.
