I am looking for information on the P. B. Tice family--particularly Jess Tice and his Mother.  We understand that Jess was the only child of P. B. Tice and his marriage to Nancy.  We have been unable to locate any information about Nancy except that she died when Jess was only a few years old.  We hope that some of you on the Forum living in the eastern part of Elk County, KS may be able to shed some light on the subject.

A little Googling found the following:

Busby (Painterhood) Cemetery
Elk County, Kansas
Sec. 12 east of Howard, KS
Lat: 37°27'35"N, Lon: 96°02'34"W

Contributed by Charles E. Templer, Apr 11, 2001 [chartemp@aol.com].
Total records = 74.

Originally read by Mildred Martin on May 27, 1982. As annotated by staff of Elk County courthouse and this transcriber.

At the time I visited this cemetery in the summer of 2000, the gravestones had continued to deteriorate and some were down or missing. The cemetery is on a dirt road going west from Buxton, KS towards Howard, KS and both my wife and I have relatives buried here.

This transcription was prepared from the typed listing in the Elk County, KS, courthouse on which annotations had been made and to which I have added my comments.

I would like to add that P. B. Tice was a stockholder in the Busby Telephone Company, created in March 1907.

When the Longton Telephone Company would not, or could not, extend its lines to Busby, local residents organized their own company and erected their own lines.

Each stockholder, including Tice, was required to provide thirteen telephone poles, a telephone, labor services, and $3.25. An interesting factoid might be that thirty telephone subscribers were using the same party line until it was decided to divide into two lines for better service.

A number of years later, the Busby Telephone Company sold out to the Longton Telephone Company.

From the Elk County history book.

Larry,
You've posted a tremendous, info-filled reply.  I would like to point out that there are some older posts right here on the forum regarding the Tice family.  A search for Tice in the Obituaries section will call up several, as will a general search for Tice in all categories.  A lot of unrelated posts show up because it recognizes and calls up posts with words like notice in them.  Just have to sort through those.

larryJ

Thanks, sometimes I worry about my brain.  It never occurred to me to look on the forum.  I just jumped right to the net.  Anyway, it is nice to be able to find so much information in such a short time.  I've spent over 20 years researching my family line and would have loved to have had the Internet entries like this one.

Thanks for all the information. Elizabeth says she told me a lot of this stuff but if she did I had forgotten a lot of it.  I didn't realize that Nancy had died in Franklin County.

Janet Harrington

And so Loren, if you are asking about the Tice family because you are related then that makes you related to me because I am a granddaughter of Thelma Elizabeth Tice who was Jesse Tice's daughter with Kittie.  Thelma was married to George Weyrauch and they had five children.  George died and Thelma married Lon Furrow who was the only grandpa that I knew on my dad's side.  So now the forum is feeling really sorry for you because you are related to me.  LOL It's a small world after all.
