Howard Courant
March 17, 1938

Mr. Henry Rech and Miss Roberta Clifton were married at the home of the bride's parents on March 8, 1888.  They started housekeeping on the old Jackson Ranch northwest of Howard, later buying a farm in the same neighborhood.  In 1910, the family moved to a farm east of Howard, where Mr. and Mrs. Rech now live.

On Sunday, March 6th, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary so that various relatives could be here who could not come on the 8th.  The annivarsary dinner was served at noon and the table cloth which was on the table for the wedding feast fifty years ago was used.

The guests for the dinner were: Mrs. Mary Huber, Rochester, N. Y., Mr. Henry Huber, Chicago, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Huber and Mary Lou, Kansas City, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. O.O. Kohler, Woodbine, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Bollinger, Elk City, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Cartlidge, Topeka, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. H. Allen Rech, Wichita, Kansas, Miss Carrietta Rech, Washington, D. C., Mr. and Mrs. H. Rech,  Mr. and Mrs. H. Carlton Rech, Mrs. Z. T. Ford, Mrs. Jessie Clifton, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Signer, Eugene, Junior, Betty, Donald and Arleta Signer.

A number of friends and neighbors called during the day and evening.  On the evening of March 8th, the members of the High Hill Neighborhood Quilting Club and their families came in with filled baskets for a surprise party for Mr. and Mrs. Rech.  The evening was spent in playing games.  After refreshments were served the guests departed wishing Mr. and Mrs. Rech many more anniversaries.

The Courant desires to extend congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Rech and family upon their successful life and long residence amongst us, the high regard they have won from their friends and neighbors, and to venture the hope there may be many returns of this happy occasion in store for them.

Rhonda

I love to read these posts.  This one is about my family so that makes it really interesting to me.  Thank you.

Thank you, Rhonda.  Your post made my day.  Now, I know my efforts are not in vain. Do you have any additonal information you would like to add about this family?  I had never heard of the name, previously, and would like to know more.

Rhonda

My dad was Donald Signer, one of Frank and Hazel Signer's children that attended.  My youngest daughter is named for Jessie Clifton, Hazel Signer's mother.  I've never been that into geneology but the older I get the more interested I become.  It was always a pet project of Dad's, I swear we could go anywhere and he'd find someone he was related to.

Thanks, Rhonda. Was Lyle a cousin of yours?  I remember him while I was in schooI, and always had trouble trying to remember which Signer boy was which Signer's son.  I know there was a Teddy, but can't tell you which one he belonged to.  I'll try to find some other articles in regards to your family to post.

Several years ago, when my mother was still living, she wanted to have some family research done and I remember telling her not to waste her money...........now, in looking back, what an idiot I was!  That would have been something to be treasured today, by her kids.  I guess as people get older they become more family oriented, and want to know about their "roots."

Lyle

I'm lyle, Ronda's cousin and Teddy and Dennis's brother. We were gene and Mary's.

Hey!  This is really cool! :) :)  I've thought of you a few times through the years and wondered whatever become of you.  I think I'll take notes on which Signer belongs where, as I don't trust my memory very far these days, then watch me forget where I put my notes!!

Rhonda

We had a Signer reunion Labor Day Weekend.  Lyle and his family were back.  Those of us who attended had a good time seeing each other and catching up.

Yeah, I think the old adage, ("You can never go home again") is true.  Howard has changed SO MUCH since we were in high school, it's just not the same place.  Don and I visit a few times each year, and it's getting so that we know more people in the cemetery than we do in the town itself!

I've never left the State of Kansas.  I've worked in various sectors, (manufacturing, food service, secretarial, to name a few)  Don and I will be having our 40th wedding anniversary in about 6 more weeks.  Both of us are retired now.
