Carl William Scott, Jr., 64, a lifelong resident of the Fredonia, Fall River, and Howard, Kansas areas, died Monday, November 16, 2009 at his home in Fredonia, Kansas. He was born February 20, 1945 in Eureka, Kansas, the son of Carl William and Mary (Shipman) Scott. 

Carl served in the United States Army from 1965-1967 during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of SP4.  On May 5, 1975, he married Freda McCarty in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  She survives at their home.  Carl was a talented repairman who worked for Harlan's Hardware and Steve's Hardware for more than 20 years.  He had also worked for M. Katch & Company, the Pontiac Garage, and did some farming.  Carl was a lifetime member of the Fredonia VFW Post 3018.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Freda, include his mother, Mary Houston of Eureka, Kansas; five daughters, Carla Cunduff of Clinton, Iowa, Tammy McGaugh of Fredonia, Kansas, Fonda Neese of Ashland, Mississippi, Cindy Sele of Fredonia, Kansas, and Betty Corley of Mesa, Arizona; one son, Donnie Selby of Fredonia, Kansas; three sisters, Marcia "Janie" Elliott of Howard, Kansas, Reta Strotkamp of Wichita, Kansas, and Cheryl Tyson of Russell, Kansas; 18 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl W. Scott, and one son, Larry Selby. 

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Timmons Chapel in Fredonia, Kansas with Rev. Gene Benefiel officiating.  Burial wll be in the Fredonia City Cemetery.  Visitation at Timmons Funeral Home will be Thursday, November 19, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

I was saddened to learn of Carl's passing.  Our families spent a lot of time together when we were all younger.  My sympathy and prayers go out to Marcia, Reta, Cheryl and his Mother Mary, as well as to his many cousins, aunts and other extended family.
