Warph,

Your post brings 2 interesting facts to mind.  For starters, "muslim" is not a race, it's a religion.  If you meant the Lebanese people, you should realize that the largest religous group in Lebanon are actually christians...

Furthermore, from Reagan's autobiography...

QuotePerhaps we didn't appreciate fully enough the depth of the hatred and the complexity of the problems that made the Middle East such a jungle. Perhaps the idea of a suicide car bomber committing mass murder to gain instant entry to Paradise was so foreign to our own values and consciousness that it did not create in us the concern for the marines' safety that it should have.

In the weeks immediately after the bombing, I believed the last thing that we should do was turn tail and leave. Yet the irrationality of Middle Eastern politics forced us to rethink our policy there. If there would be some rethinking of policy before our men die, we would be a lot better off. If that policy had changed towards more of a neutral position and neutrality, those 241 marines would be alive today.

So tell me again why we insist on being in the middle east?

They didn't learn their lesson the first time around.  Put them back in their place in 1500's, 1700's and now their trying again.

every couple hundred years, they get their panties in a wad and decide to try and make someone elses life miserable. So they need to be beat back to the stone age from time to time.

I'm not sure how Pres. Bush not allowing body bags and body counts on TV morphed into a tirade against me with the usual unnecessary sharp language Warph, but if it makes you feel better fine.  Frankly, I'm not personally responsible for what Michelle Obama does or where she does it. She isn't at that hospital now. I do know about the problems hospitals face and the money pit ERs are. Yours may allow catheter changes there, ours don't unless you want to wait a VERY long time. As far as turning away patients being "illegal." they got around that years ago.
As far as the Beirut thing, I was at the firehouse at the time the news broke and spent some time later consoling some friends...'nuff said. Shame on us for allowing that to happen. Very sad and probably avoidable. As far as your part. Like everyone else, I appreciate what you were doing and did, but your training should have prepared you all better for what you might and probably did see. Not your fault. I've seen plenty of nasty bodies, body bags and transfer cases. Fortunately not that many at one time. Think about the poor guys who have to deal with those bodies....not a nice detail. As far as living with that history, there are people who still hate the Japanese and Koreans and Vietnamese and on and on.
I'm sorry you see me as being such an itch. You really don't know me, only know what I say here, and there are still things I must not talk about. We aren't all that different. Maybe you do know about green thumb tacks. ;D
