Edie, your week sounds amazing..............I have always wanted to see the scout ranch, but never had anyone to go with and just don't want to visit it alone.
Once upon a time I did drive the back roads. That was when I had my truck and the roads weren't as rough as they are now.
I tend to stay off gravel......tires are too dear to replace any more than I must.
I drove back from Caney a few months ago. and I must say the drive had me wishing I were not the one driving........Should I start humming, "The Hills are Alive?".......if that isn't a gift from God I don't know what is.
I do enjoy driving, touring and seeing Kansas.
Soon either this month or next, I will go to Topeka, (when family can all get together) and do enjoy the drive on the way north.
I can't brag on Kansas enough.
I am glad you had a great week.
Today, I want to make a difference.
Here I am Lord, use me!

I am glad to hear that you didn't have to climb that ladder, too.  After your explanation, I have a mental picture of cow patty bingo.  Might not work in your area.

Wilma, we really do have lots of farms around. One of our firefighters is a full time farmer on land that goes back several generations. Maz can fix anything and helps with a lot of engine repairs and such. He also lets us use one of his hay wagons for the Newark Halloween parade. We do a different "haunted firehouse" every year and the firefighters kid's ride the float.
Some of the local fire companies do have the patty bingo and our one south  Aetna station has about 9 acres with a derelict house, barns, etc. (it had been a horse farm) so we could do the patty bingo with no problem. ;D  As far as my climbing the ladder, I'd have had to fight off a bunch of hunky young firefighters for that privilege!
I'm so glad the weather out there has settled down so you can get out to see nature's beauty. We went to the cemetery on Tues. for Daddy's birthday and took the long way just to see all the colors. It's funny how our birthdays came out this year. Mine was 1/11/11 and his was 11/1/11. Won't ever see that again.

Diane, my brother was born on 1 November 1945, I remember that day clearly, I was five years old. I also remember the night before when my dad ran off the trick or treaters before they could reach the house. I spent the next day at my grandmas' house, quite a treat for me.

The ladder truck sounds like a great thing and might be something the volunteers could do with our ladder truck. They seldom use it, (thank God). They are a great bunch of guys and the bestest of neighbors!

Hey! I'm 1/11/45 so I'm a few months older than he.  How about that.  Tell your brother happy birthday from me.

I am quite amused by my wife's cousin who came from Chicago where she lived all her life.  Sometimes she is 1) amazed, 2) confused, 3) astonished, 4)or whatever word you can use to describe her reactions to a new environment.

I say this because a few weeks ago I told her, during a brief rainstorm, that this was not the rainy season yet and that there was warmer weather coming.  She laughed.  The rain was followed by several days of 90 degree weather.  She has seen every possible animal that exists actually in our front yard.  NOT!  Well, we did have a squirrel which is unusual.

All this leads to the weather.  We had a brief rain, followed by high temps, followed by Santana winds which were not very strong this time.  So I explained the effect of the winds, i.e. less humidity, a drying of the skin, wind coming from the east instead of the ocean breeze from the west, etc.  I also told her rain would follow the winds.  She laughed.  It rained yesterday and will again tomorrow.

All this leads to today.  It will be a dry day, temps in the 70's and little wind.  I have already been tapped for babysitting at the beach this afternoon as my son and his wife are attending a wedding.  I would stop at the AL Post, but I think it is quiet there today, meaning nothing is going on.

Tomorrow I will begin painting where the holes in the walls were patched.  Hopefully, the paint I have is the one we used to paint the walls originally......... looks the same to me.  I used to hate to paint.  My wife would announce we were going to paint and I was not a painter and did sloppy work, which got me fired from painting.  (Note to self:  If you don't want to do something, do it badly the first time and you won't be asked to do it again!)

So there is my itinerary.  What's yours?

HELP!  I'm talking and I can't shut up!

I came...  I saw...  I had NO idea what was going on...

What started as a "I feel like I can get a lot done today" turned into a "It hurts to even move" day.  Don't know why that happens.  If I hadn't already stripped the bed and had the washer running, I might not have done anything.  But I wanted a clean bed tonight, so I did manage to get one thing done before lunch.  Then the every joint and muscle hurts episode.  After that I forced myself to find some small things to do and lo! and behold!, I got all the Halloween stuff ready to store away again.

I have found that when those old 'itis things hit me, keeping myself moving is the best remedy.  Besides relieving the aches and pains there is the benefit of feeling productive instead of useless.

I got to go to the International Quilt Show in Houston today.  This was the third time I have gone to it and am still amazed at all the quilts, crafts and the things the vendors from all over the world can get in one building.

We walked until we were really tired and then walked some more.  Stayed from 10 am to 5 pm and wished we could have stayed longer.

Already making plans to go again next year.  There is a new Quilting Museum opening this month here in Texas and I think we will soon take a road trip to see it.
