It's been a long time since I was in the service, but I can remember the care packages from my mom.  Aside from the baked goods that usually got a little moldy or rock hard, there were things like razor blades and toothbrushes, and other hygenic items that we had go to the PX for.  Sometimes, PX's weren't available or didn't have what you needed.  Having a relative or friend who knew what you needed and sending it to you was a big help.  Nowadays, they have the throwaway cameras.  Send one or two of those and then they can be mailed back for you to develop the pictures and see where the person is at.  However, sometimes these are not allowed.  Extra underwear is nice.  Writing paper (even in the age of e-mail) and pens are handy.  If you still have a problem thinking what to send, place yourself on a desert island with plenty of food and nothing else.  What would you need?

Day five of the Nephew's visit-----------the original plan was that they were going to leave today. That was changed yesterday as they wanted to spend some time at the beach and have lunch a locally famous fish restaurant.  My daughter has the day off and will take the granddaughter to school and pick her up.  My wife has an appointment this morning and is debating whether we should join everyone at the fish place.  It is a long drive to the appointment and and a long drive from the appointment to the fish place.  So we are debating about the fish place.  Other than that, no other plans for the day.

Larry, my former hubby had a great aunt whom everybody loved. At the age of 83 she drove all the way from Kentucky to visit. She left on the fourth day, as she said that company was like fish; after three days they began to stink! She was quite an old gal!

First I checked with my friend Pugs see if he had any suggestions for your care packages. The only other thing extra he suggested were current magazines for any packages going out to the front lines that don't get news and such until the helicopters come in.You all have a great list for stuff they do need. Then I made up my list for ordering my Obama Chia Pets for Christmas.  ;D  They'll get snapped up pretty quick.

Today, I'm just waiting for the heads of the school board here to explode. I know we are in a hot spot where we are located, but I wasn't expecting to see my local school on CNN. You all know how dangerous Cub Scouts are!

Diane, I must have missed something.  I guess I had better turn on the TV.

Day six of Nephew's visit.  He went to bed early last night in anticipation of getting up early to hook up the fifth wheel and leave.  I woke up at 6 AM, (normal for me) and it is now two hours later and not a sign of any movement from the fifth wheel.  A rather noisy trash collection truck came by to pick up the trash which would wake anyone within a block's distance and still no movement from them.  It has begun to rain this morning, the first of the year and they have a long way to go.

Our rainy season is measured from July 1 thru June 30.  We generally don't see rain from April/May until Oct/Nov.  So, this is our first measurable rain of the season.  SoCal averages 15.5 inches a year.  Rain here is different from the Midwest.  Our storms are straight off the ocean and tend to hover as the clouds hit the mountains around us.  The sky clouds over and stays that way until the low pressure moves on and allows the storm to clear the mountains.  This can take a couple of days.  If I recall, in the Midwest the rain storm blows up and rains for a while and then moves on as there is nothing to block its path.  I remember driving to Howard one time and watching a rain cloud crossing the fields off to my right and wondering who was going to get to point B first or if we were going to get there at the same time.  It won and I drove through some wet towns, but the rain was already gone.

IT'S NOT WHAT YOU GATHER, BUT WHAT YOU SCATTER....
THAT TELLS WHAT KIND OF LIFE YOU HAVE LIVED!

Jo I agree, Myrna and I were totally amazed at the penalty the school board wanted to impose. The little boy wanted to show off his camping eating utensils.

Jo, you could rob a 7-11 in Tulsa and not get that much punishment.
