Winding down after a successful family reunion in Howard today - 65 people in attendance, which included relatives from South Dakota, Illinois, Washington, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas.  Several new faces, and lots of visiting and family genealogy discussions.  I think our ancestors would be pleased - especially since it was the 76th consecutive year for holding this Hebb Reunion .

Sounds like a wonderful reunion.
Now that Irene is officially a hurricane and about 5 days from the SE coast, we have to start watching carefully. A couple of the predicted paths brings it up right across us, but usually by then as a very juicy tropical storm with a lot of flooding. We've had a lot more August rain than usual and are on track to break a record for the wettest August ever, preceded by the hottest July ever. weird.

Diane Amberg

Well, that was interesting. At about 1:53 we had an earth quake! Seriously. I was sitting here when the house began to dance up and down and everything on the table started rocking, rolling and dancing around The table jumped up and down and the hanging plants on the front porch began to swing.Things on the bookshelves moved around but didn't quite fall off. We just checked our gas and water lines and the basement walls, but everything seems alright. That's the biggest we've ever had, about 15 seconds worth. We hear booming up in the hills above us and have had the occasional jiggle before but nothing like this. A really neat experience!

Get ready for the aftershocks, they tend to be a little more nerve racking than the quake itself.  Haven't been in one for several years but still remember.  Weirdest feeling was when we had one while I was driving, all of a sudden it felt like I was floating.

Glad to hear there were no injuries or deaths.

Well Diane, I must admit that I can find just a leetle better way to experience exciting!  :D

Apparently this was a 5.9  all up and down the east coast with the epicenter in central VA, 41 miles NW of Richmond. This thing even made CNN that is still covering it. I just looked at my walls and EVERTHING is now crooked. ;D ;D ;D

Judy Harder

glad you are ok. Is this still the path of the hurricane? sounds like you and the east coast is going to get creamed.
Today, I want to make a difference.
Here I am Lord, use me!

Diane Amberg

Yup, we are watching Irene ( one of my best girlfriend's names...boy is she getting teased) very carefully. It may still stay off the coast far enough to spare us heavy wind but we're likely going to get some serious flooding.Just have to keep watching so we can pack and scat quick if we have to. Thanks.

Yeah, just got home from my doctor's appointment and CNN was on.  I just want you to know, Diane................

I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.  WE DO NOT EXPORT OUR EARTHQUAKES.  WE KEEP THEM ALL TO OURSELVES!

However, I am glad you did not have any damage.  And, as mentioned, the aftershocks can be a little scarier only because you have already had the main quake and can anticipate aftershocks.  When we have had big ones, I could always figure about an hour's wait for an aftershock.

HELP!  I'm talking and I can't shut up!

I came...  I saw...  I had NO idea what was going on...

jarhead

Larry, I don't watch much CNN so just wondering if they are blaming the earthquake on Bush.
Seriously, how would you like to be down deep in a Va. coal mine when one of these puppies hit
