Adam Abel Strachan was the fourth of eight children of Alexander and Jane Strachan.  He was born at Keith Hall, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, December 31, 1860.  He came to America with his parents and family in 1872, and they located on a farm on Elk River southeast of Howard, which farm has ever since been the home of the Strachan family.

While yet a youth, Adam left the farm and secured employment in Howard where he has since lived.

After working for others for many year, he engaged in business for himself, and continued in mercantile trade up to the day of his death.

On February 6, 1892, he was married to Miss Kizzie Lee of Howard, and to them were born three children, Margaret Strachan, now of Wichita; Mrs. Charlotte Heisler of Oxford, Kansas; Alexander Strachan of Howard.  The wife and mother of his three children passed away in 1904.

He is survived by the three children named above, and two grandchildren, Jack and Bobby Heisler, and two brothers and two sisters--Louis G., and WIlliam, Margaret and Janet strachan of Howard.

Adam Strachan was a quiet, peaceable and law-abiding citizen, a good neighbor and loyal friend.  He was a religious man and a life long member of the Presbyterian church, and until his hearing became impaired, a regular attendant at church and Sunday school services.  He was liberal in his suppoprt to all measures for the good of the community and always had the highest respect of our people.  His family have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, August 4th, at 2:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian church, Rev. A. R. Griggs in charge.  The Presbyterian chior sang appropriate familiar hymns and a beautiful anthem selection, Mrs. Griggs at the piano.  Pallbearers were H.J. Kilpatrick, J. P. McDiarmid, Chas. McDiarmid, Sherman Carter, Will Robertson.  Interment was in Grace Lawn cemetery.
