James Alvin Rowe, son of Ed and Armanda Rowe, was born in Willow Hill, Illiinois, September 26, 1875.  He came to Kansas with the family at the age of eight.  They came to Neosho county, later moving to Elk conty, where he lived most of his life on a farm.

In 1898 he was married to Gertrude Burtch.  To this union were born two children, a son, Carl, who died in infancy, and a daughter, Thelma K. Rowe Barnaby who passed away in 1932.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Gertrude; a granddaughter, Leota Cass; two great grandsons, Francis Leo and Jimmie; one great great grandson, Jerry Lee Cass; one brother, Claude Rowe of Decatur, Illinois; four half-sister, nieces, and nephews, and a number of cousins.

At the age of 19 he joined the Christian church at Humboldt, Kansas and lived that faith until his death.

He passed away at Newton Memorial hospital in Winfield, Kansas, at 11:20, December 31, 1955, at the age of 80 years, 3 months and 5 days.

Memorial services were held at the Moon Chapel in Howard, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 2nd, the Rev. P. L. Mitchell of the Howard Methodist church officiating.  Music was furnished by Mrs. Willard Morss and Mrs. Alex Rader, with Mrs. Willis Miller accompanist.  The casket bearers were Clyde Carson, Harry Dodd, Harry Dotterer, A. Z. Robinson, Ray Snowden, and Raymond Moody.  Concluding services aand interment were in Grace Lawn cemetery, Howard, Kansas.
