Harriet Smith was born in Burlington, Vermont, February 18, 1832, and died in Elk Falls, Kansas, March 21, 1910 at 11 p.m., age 78 years 1 month and 3 days.
Her father emigrated with his family to Ohio in 1834 where Miss Smith grew to womanhood.
She was married to Mr. James Wallace March 17, 1856, their companionship extending through a period of fifty-four years.  To this union were born six children, one son and one daughter dying in infancy.  Four sons, Willard of Arkansas City, Harry of Chanute, John and Metellas of Wichita were present at the funeral services which took place in the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon conducted by Mr. Hill.
Mrs. Wallace became a christian early in life first uniting with the M. E. church but of later years was a member of the Baptist church.
She was highly esteemed by all who knew her.  The family wish to express their gratitude to the friends who so kindly ministered to her.
For a number of years Mrs. Wallace was a member of Rawlins Relief Corps but because of age and affliction took out a final card in 1891.  She has been suffering quite a while and death came as a release.  Our loss is her gain.
"For we know that if this earthly house of our tabernacle were dissolved we have a building of God a house not made with hands eternal in the Heavens." -Bible.
