Douglass Thane Fell, 78, of Copan, Oklahoma, former Longton, Kansas resident, passed away June 27, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Center in Wichita, Kansas.

Douglass was born June 19, 1931 in Elkhart, Kansas to Murray P. and Bertha P. (Schule) Fell.  He attended schools in Fellsburg and graduated from high school in 1949 from Trousdale High School.  He attended Kansas State University, graduating with a degree in agronomy in 1953.  While a senior at K-State, he married Ardith L. Alford.  They later divorced.  He then married Joyce C. Davis.

While at K-State, he was a member of Farmhouse fraternity and joined ROTC.  Upon graduation, he joined the Army, reaching the level of First Lieutenant and served in Alaska before being honorably discharged in June 1955.  He then went back to farming with his dad in Fellsburg.  In 1968, he went to work for the Loughery & Brinkman Cattle Corporation moving to Basehor, Kansas, and a couple of years later relocated to Dexter, Kansas.  In 1975 he moved to Greeley, Colorado and shortly thereafter to Garden City, Kansas working for large farming operations.  He later moved to Longton, Kansas where he worked as a carpenter and farmed until he retired.  The farm was sold in 2008, and he moved to Copan, Oklahoma where he lived until his death.

During his career, he was a member of the American Hereford Association, the American Milking Devon Association, and the Dexter, Kansas school board for one term.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of the home; sons, Mike Fell and wife Ann and Tom Fell and wife Kathy, all of Winfield, Kansas; a daughter Sheryl Fell and fiance Paul of Springhill, Florida; three stepsons, David Davis and wife Kathy of Copan, Oklahoma, Dalton Davis, Dondi Davis and wife Tracy; his brother, Ferol Fell and wife Janyth of Santa Fe, New Mexico; thirteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday in the Community Christian Church, Longton, Kansas.  Memorials are to the Longton Community Christian Church and the TLC Unit of the Kansas Veterans Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.
