And so it begins (I was hoping to bypass this part of pregnancy!)...
Anyone know of any natural remedy for heartburn?  So far, I just have been getting it a little in the evening after I eat, but according to friends... it may turn into all-night misery soon!  I know there are non-natural things like Tums, but these same friends say that they didn't help them much during the heat of battle.
Thanks!

Hormones released during pregnancy allow the softening of the sphincter between the esophagus and stomach. This lets stomach acids back up into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation. This may also occur in the latter months of pregnancy as your baby pushes all of your organs upward.
Suggestions:

Eat smaller, more frequent meals
Remain upright for an hour after eating, lying down can irritate the problem
Eating yogurt or drinking milk can help
Avoid spicy or greasy foods
Try a tablespoon of honey in a glass of warm milk
Mercurius Solubilis 6C three times daily

I copied this off of a site dealing with pregnancy...I have no idea what the last entry is (Mercurius Solubilis?????  Whassat?????), so don't do anything without passing it by your OB/GYN first.

Yes, I read these same suggestions in my pregnancy books.  But, I had it pretty bad yesterday afternoon when I was driving (upright, of course), and had only eaten a hamburger for lunch (ketchup only).  Didn't try the milk, but will do that when it happens again.  Was hoping some of the "naturistics" would have some miracle cure!!!

Mercurius Solubilis is quicksilver or mercury.

Lewis and Clark brought mercury with them on their expedition and used it to treat VD among their men.

Apparently, it is good for other ailments.

Hmm.  Interesting.  Also interesting that it would be recommended on a pregnancy site, as we're supposed to stay very clear of mercury.  That's the reason they recommend not eating certain types of fish like albacore tuna; because of the high mercury levels.

OH...That's what that stuff was...What on earth are they doing putting that there????  That'd be why I said to consult your OB/GYN...They ought to be able to give you some suggestions for homeopathic remedies (at least, mine always had a few suggestions along that line).

cheyronni

baking soda and water is a natural cure for heartburn

An unnamed source I saw in the grocery store (non-forum member), said chewing gum; specifically cinnamon.
I'll try out all the suggestions (minus the mercury) and let you know!

Cheyronni; is there a certain amount of bk soda to water ratio?

Soda cracker with milk may help.  Saltless crackers would be my choice during the summer months.  No sense asking for swellling.
