Today's------A beautiful Sunday.........

My pastor has a sarcastic streak.  Let me give you an example.

Last week he stood up to the pulpit, raised both arms and welcomed the congregation.  He smiled broadly and said, "Brothers and sisters, I have good news.  We have enough money on hand to fund our entire building program for the year, with enough surplus to accomplish other great things!"

There was a loud murmur of approval as everyone in the congregation smiled and exchanged proud looks with one another.

But then the pastor scowled, and announced, "I have bad news, too.  That money of which I spoke?  It's still out there in your pockets."

The poor guy didn't understand why he couldn't keep a job.

He got written up all the time for his bad attitude.  His bosses always told him he didn't show respect.  Then, sooner or later, the fired him.

His last job had ended like all the others.  He was still sore about it.  He had done nothing wrong.

He showed up at the office one day at 8:30.  His boss yelled at him:  "You should have been here at 8!"

He replied, very respectfully, "Why?  What happened at 8?"

There's a waiter at my favorite restaurant and he's OK, I guess, but what a comedian!

Maybe he's just waiting tables until he gets his big break in standup comedy.  I don't know.

The other night I asked about the specials and he said, "You should try the chicken."

I said, "Hmm, the chicken.  How is it prepared?"

The waiter said, "Oh, we're very upfront about that.  We tell the chicken right away that he's not going to make it."

Today's------------should have been more specific....

Barry and Beatrice, an old married couple, are sitting on the couch watching public television.  They're watching a special about old couples making end-of-life decisions and preparations.

"Honey," Barry says, turning to his wife with a solemn expression, "I want you to promise me, if there ever comes a time when I am just propped up uselessly, dependent on some machine and feeding on bottled fluids, that you will put an end to it."

Beatrice looks Barry in the eyes, nods her head compassionately, and says, "I will, dear, I promise."

Then she stands up, turns off the TV, grabs the beer out of Barry's hand, walks to the kitchen and dumps it down the drain.

A photographer for one of the big East Coast newspapers races to the airport to catch a small plane for a job.  He arrives at the appointed gate, gets waved through, and hops aboard the first plane he sees there.

"Hit it," he says.

The pilot takes off, then asks, "Where are we going?"

Photographer says, "South."

Awhile later they see signs of a massive weather system straight ahead.  The plane starts rocking.  The pilot says, "You know there's a hurricane over Florida."

Photographer says, "That's where we're going.  I have to shoot pictures for the paper."

After a long pause, the pilot says, with a shaky voice, "You mean you're not my flight instructor?"

A visitor from the Netherlands was chatting with his American friend and said, "You know, our flag is red, white and blue, like yours."

The American smiled and replied, "Yes, that's right."

The Dutchman then said, joking, "You might not know it, but our flag symbolizes our tax system."

The American said, "How do you mean?"

The Dutchman replied, "We get red when we talk about taxes.  We get white when we get our tax bills.  And then we're blue after we pay them."

The American laughed and replied, "That's the same with us.  Only we see stars, too!"

Today's---------hah.........

The three turtles finally arrived at the park for their big Fourth of July picnic.  They started spreading out the stuff they had brought.

"Oh, no!" Burt exclaimed.  "We forgot the salad!"

"What are we going to do?"  Bart cried.

"I'll go back and get it, but don't start eating before I get back," Bret said.

The other two promised, so Bret took off.  Day turned into night, and night passed.  Another day came and went.  Then the weekend.  A whole week passed.  And then a month.

Finally, Burt said, "I'm too hungry to wait any longer."

Bart agreed, "Let's eat," he said.

They started eating.  Bret popped up from behind a nearby rock and said, "Aha!  If you're going to start eating without me, I'm not going to go!"

A young man asked an old rich man how he made his money.

The old guy fingered his expensive wool vest and said, "Well, son, it was 1932. The depth of the Great Depression. I was down to my last nickel."

"I invested that nickel in an apple. I spent the entire day polishing the apple and, at the end of the day, I sold the apple for ten cents."

"The next morning, I invested those ten cents in two apples. I spent the entire day polishing them and sold them at 5:00 pm for 20 cents. I continued this system for a month, by the end of which I'd accumulated a fortune of $9.80."

"Then my wife's father died and left us two million dollars."
