Tanner Lee Kahler, age 12, of Independence and Buxton, Kansas, died May 25, 2009 at the Fredonia Regional Hospital in Fredonia, Kansas.  Tanner was born January 19, 1997 in Independence, Kansas to Todd Lee and Nancy Sue (Lanning) Kahler. 

Tanner grew up in Independence and Buxton, Kansas, attending grade school in Independence and middle school in Fredonia, Kansas.  He was a member of the Fredonia Middle School Band, the Busy Beavers 4-H Club, the Independence Wrestling Club, and the Fredonia Wrestling Club.  He played baseball and loved to fish.

Survivors include his mother, Nancy and husband Doug Jones of Buxton, Kansas; his father, Todd and wife Lisa Kahler of Independence, Kansas; two brothers, Tim Erbe of Independence, Kansas and Chad Kahler of Elk City, Kansas; a sister, Lisa Erbe of Manhattan, Kansas; four stepbrothers, Tyler and Brandon Stein of Independence, Kansas and Zach and Jake Jones of Fredonia, Kansas; two stepsisters, Dayna Miles of Indepedence, Kansas and Tiffany Schnoover of Fredonia, Kansas; maternal grandmother, Patricia (Cannon) and Joe Snively of Howard, Kansas; maternal grandfather, Larry Lanning of Howard, Kansas; paternal grandfather, Terry Kahler of Independence, Kansas; maternal great-grandmother, Ailene Cannon of Longton, Kansas; and paternal great-grandparents, Minnie and Lloyd Sumner of Independence, Kansas. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Independence, Kansas with the Reverend Gene Benefiel of the Buxton Christian Church officiating.  Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the Potts Chapel in Independence.  Visitation hours on Friday will be from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Independence, Kansas. 

The family has suggested memorials to the Independence Wrestling Club or the Wilson County Fair Association, and contributions may be left with the Potts Chapel, 122 S. Penn, Independence, Kansas  67301 which is in charge of arrangements.
