  LeRoy Edgar Fry, 87, of Elk Falls, died Monday at Sedan City Hospital.
  Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Elk Falls United Methodist Church with pastor Steven Bliss of the Calvary Chapel officiating.  Private inurnment will be at the Elk Falls Cemetery.
  Memorials are suggested to the Elk Falls Senior Center and the Calvary Chapel at Elk Falls.  Contributions may be left with Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard, which is handling the arrangements.
  Mr. Fry was born Jan. 18, 1919 at Hutchinson, the son of Claude Elmer and Hazel Effie (McCracken) Fry.  He attended school in Hutchinson and graduated from Bresee Academy in 1936.
  He entered the United States Navy in 1943 and served as cook on a submarine tender during World War II.
  He married Alta Grace Weaver at Hutchinson on Nov. 28, 1946, and she survives.  He managed lunch counters in Duckwall stores at several locations in Kansas.  He owned a cafe in Larned and a grill in Great Bend.  He continued in the food service industry at Hesston and Hutchinson until retiring in 1982 and moving to Elk Falls, where he operated the Sherman House restaurant during the 1990's.
  He was a member of the Calvary Chapel at Elk Falls.
  In addition to his wife, Mr. Fry is survived by three sons, Larry Fry, Poway, Calif., Steven Fry, Elk Falls and Brian Fry, Nickerson; a daughter, Carolyn Fox, Bellflower, Calif; two sisters, Georgia Mae Fry, Kansas City, Kan., and Grace Hess, Coolidge, Ariz; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

For those of you who had never met Mr. Fry, he was one of the nicest men I have ever met.  He always had a smile for me when I would see him and Alta.  He was very, very polite and always acted the gentleman that I am sure he was raised to be.  He will be greatly missed by his wife and family.

LeRoy Edgar Fry died on Monday, Sept. 18, 2006 at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan.  He was 87 years of age and a resident of Elk Falls.  Roy was born on January 18, 1919 at Hutchinson, Kansas to Claude Elmer and Hazel Effie (McCracken) Fry.  He attended school in Hutchinson and graduated from Bresee Academy in 1936.

Roy entered the United States Navy in 1943 and served as cook on the USS Anthedon during World War II.  On November 28, 1946, he married Alta Grace Weaver at Hutchinson, Kansas and they raised one daughter, Carolyn, and three sons, Larry, Steven and Brian.

Roy was involved in food service throughout his life.  He managed lunch counters in Duckwall stores at several locations in Kansas.  He owned several restaurants before learning the art of hickory smoked barbeque at Plainview, Texas.  Roy was best known for Roy's Bar B Que which he operated in Great Bend, Hutchinson and, after retiring in 1982, in Elk Falls.

He attended the Calvary Chapel at Elk Falls.

He is survived by his wife, Alta; his daughter, Carolyn Fox of Bellflower, California; his sons, Larry of Poway, California, Steven of Elk Falls and Brian of Nickerson, Kansas; two sisters, Georgiamae Fry of Kansas City, Kansas and Grace Hess of Coolidge, Arizona; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and a grandson.

Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Elk Falls United Methodist Church with Pastor Steven Bliss of the Calvary Chapel officiating.  Private inurnment was held at the Elk Falls Cemetery. Memorials have been established with the Elk Falls Senior Center and the Calvary Chapel at Elk Falls.  Contributions may be left with the funeral home.  The funeral arrangements were made with the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
