Melvin Franklin McAlister, age 75, a resident of Moline, Kansas, passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 at his home in Moline. He was born January 12, 1934 in Moline, Kansas, the son of Ralph and Bessie McAlister.

Melvin was a graduate of Elk Falls High School.  He also served his country in the United States Army.  After his service in the Army, Melvin spent his working years as a farmer.  On October 18, 1969, Melvin was united in marriage to Judith Ann Donohue, and they later divorced.

Melvin is survived by one son, Aaron McAlister of Winfield, Kansas; one daughter, Rebecca McAlister of Wichita, Kansas; five sisters, Mary Ann Osborn, Wanda McAlister, Karen Hey, Phyllis Hawkins, and Helen Yokum; and two grandchldren, Derek and Marissa McAlister.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Darlene, and two brothers, Darrell and Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2009 at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas with Pastor Robin Haines officiating.  Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will be at Belknap Cemetery.  Family suggests contributions to the Belknap Community Fund and may be left in care of the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Zimmerman Funeral Home, Howard, Kansas.
