  John Shipman was born in Green County, Indiana October 2, 1849, and died at his home in Howard, Kansas, November 20, 1909 at 4 a.m., age 60 years, 1 month, 18 days.
 He moved from Indiana to Bourbon county, Kansas with his parents when but a small boy and moved to Elk county in 1879.
 On April 12, 1880, he was married to Miss Mary S. Barron.  To this union were born four children, two sons and two daughters all of whom are now living namely, Andrew C., Oscar H., Mrs. W. Smith and Mrs. Bert Beaumont.  Brother Shipman lived on his farm near Clear Creek about 20 years and some two weeks ago, on account of declining health he moved to howard.
 At the age of 18 years Brother Shipman gave his life to the services of the blessed Master.
 Brother Shipman leaves a wife and four children together with other relatives and friends to mourn his departure.  Funeral services conducted by Elder Gilbert Park were held at Clear Creek Sunday November 21, 1909 at 2 p.m. and interment made in the cemetery near by.
