This is actually a song I wrote a few years back, but a song is nothing more than a poem with music. This is called "The Night the Old School Ourhouse Burnt Down"

I've got a story I'm going to tell
it happened long ago but I remember it well
It was the night the old school outhouse burnt down

That old outhouse was made for three
it stood underneath a big elm tree
about thirty yards or so behind the school
On the floor was a Sears catalog
and an old wood box of new corn cobs
a spider had it's web above the door

Well, that spider, the bugs and the bluetail flies
those little critters, they lost their lives
the night the old school outhouse burnt down.
I never will forget that sight
the raging fire neath the pale moonlight
the night the old school outhouse burnt down

Now, people came from all over town
to watch that old outhouse burn down
there was talk as to how that fire began
You could smell the odor of kerosene
but no other evidence was seen
people knew it was no accident.

So, the sheriff decided to snoop around
he talked to every kid in town
no one would admit to the dirty deed
That night I chuckled as I layed in bed
thinking of the Sheriff and what I'd said
I told him I didn't know a thing at all

Now, I'm so glad that no one seen
how nice I poured that kerosene
and struck the match that burnt the outhouse down.
Years have passed but still I see
that raging fire neath the big elm tree
the night the old school outhouse burnt down

Yes, the spider, the bugs and the bluetail flies
those little critters, they lost theri lives
the night the old school outhouse burnt down.
the older I get the more I know how little I knew when I knew it all

Just as soon as I can talk Randy Travis into singing it. ;D
the older I get the more I know how little I knew when I knew it all

You all have no idea how much this man writes and the stories he tells. I have to say I am one of his biggest fans..
Wonderful funny stories....................I really need to get a few of them and post them on here..

How about a book that we can all buy and keep.  Wouldn't that look good in my bookcase?  Elk County Stories by A Good Old Elk County Native.

It would be awesome..
And he has enough written stories to fill a good sized book too..

I'll see what I can do about getting one and posting it on here..  :police:

I love that idea too. I have been thinking about how to boil this forum down to a book or collection of stories. We are all connected by some thread to Elk County. There are many great stories etc posted here. Maybe it is just because I have a connection that I think that other people with no connection would find this fascinating. I think we are a microcosm of the common story that all of us Americans share. Somewhere in here there are great books, Mini series etc.
