John Willis Heater, 62, of rural Howard, died Thursday (9-7-06) at the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado, Kansas. He was a lifetime resident of rural Howard.

Funeral services will be at 2 pm Thursday (9-14-06) at the Howard United Methodist Church with Dr. Paul Lee and Rev. Gary Parsons officiating. Cremation will take place after the funeral.  The cremains will be scattered on the family farm.

Friends may call from 12 noon until 9 pm Wednesday at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard.

A memorial has been established with the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University. Contributions may be left with the funeral home.

Mr. Heater was born November 12, 1943 at Eureka, Kansas, the son of John Lowell and Sadie Ellen (Ginn) Heater.

He attended Elk County schools and graduated from Howard High School in 1961. He attended an agriculture course at Kansas State University and lived in Manhattan a brief time before returning to work on the family farm northeast of Howard.

He married Vicky Mae Mize on Oct. 29, 1967 at the Severy United Methodist Church. They had two children, John Robert and Victoria Ellen.  John was a lifetime farmer and stockman. He was a member of the Howard United Methodist Church.

John is survived by his wife, Vicky; his son, J.R. Heater, Howard; his daughter, Tori Glover of Pittsburg, Kansas; and his sister, Betty Jean Bushman of McLean, Virginia.

The funeral arrangements are being made with the Zimmerman Funeral Home, Howard, Kansas.
