I saw a skylark spiral high
Until it vanished from my sight.
I saw the day breathe low and sigh
As daylight faded into night.
I saw night curtain off the road,
That leads a thousand miles away,
But morning came and plainly showed,
That night is followed close by day.
I know that each bird lost from sight
Will soon be winging back to earth
That daylight's glow, erased by night,
Will shine again, at daybreak's birth.

I saw a loved one fall asleep.
Friends called it death; their grief was sore.
But others there, who did not weep,
Knew life went on, forevermore.
