I heard tonight that Herm Edwards has been fired as the Chiefs head coach and that Shanahan is being considered for the job.

Bill Cowher appears to have an edge over Shanahan.

Cowher is the former Pittsburgh head coach and is also a former Chiefs coach (as was Herm Edwards).

In the 1990s, he was the youngest coach to ever take a team to the Super Bowl and his team won the Super Bowl just recently (within the past five years).

Since Denver still owes Shanahan money for his firing, football rules and/or contract provisions would seem to prevent Shanahan from going to another AFC west team so soon after his firing.

But anything could happen.

Do you think Cowher would be better for the Chiefs than Shanahan?  Personally, I would like to see Jimmy Johnson come out of retirement.

W. Gray

Jimmy Johnson does have nice hair.

I do not know who would be better but I think I would lean toward Cowher.

Both Shanahan and Cowher have denied they want the job or that they have even been contacted.

Shanahan, when he was with the Broncos, insisted on total control. He was also a vice president and general manager.

The Chiefs just hired a new GM and he apparently has his eye on a fellow in the Cardinals organization for coach.

There is also a rule that they have to go through a hiring process that includes interviewing minorities.

It will be a while before they announce a new coach and KC will again go through what seems to be an eternal building process.

Bill Self can be very proud of his young team, they are playing well.
