Zerelda E. Meek was born in Greenfield, Indiana, November 20, 1832, died at her home in Howard, Kansas, April 5, 1908 at 1:45 a.m. age 75 years, 4 months, 16 days.

October 24, 1852 Miss Meek became the wife of Eldrich S. Roberts.  They removed from Greenfield, Indiana to Peoria, Illinois, and from there they came in 1868 to Greenwood county, Kansas.  In the fall of 1869 they came to Elk county locating on a farm 2 1/2 miles west of Howard.  Here in 1874 the husband died and on July 17, 1879, Mrs. Roberts became the wife of James W. McDaniel.  They continued to live on the farm until some six years ago when they came to Howard.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church April 6, at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Elder Park.  Mrs. McDaniel was a faithful member of the Christian church.

By her first marriage she was the mother of nine children, seven of which live to sorrow over her death.  They are: Ennis C. at Los Angeles and Ira P. at Long Beach, California, Joshua L, at Pine Ridge, Idaho, Albert M., Perry L. and Mary J., the wife of L.P. McDaniel, reside at Tonkawa, Oklahoma, and Leander F. at Howard, Kansas.  She also leaves four brothers, Noah and Marshall Meek of Guthrie, Oklahoma, Oscar F. Meek of Philadelphia, Indiana and Albert Meek of Grenola, Kansas.

The aged husband has the deep sympathy of a host of friends and neighbors.

The obituaries that appeared in earlier days, were sure different than what we put into an obit today. The writing styles are different.   In my own opinion, they were more interesting then, as they usually told something about that person's life.  Today, it is mostly just the barest vital facts, and that's it.
