Jimmie Lee Helms, 63, long-time resident of Howard, died at his home June 8, 2005.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Zimmerman Funeral Home.  Pastor Robin Haines will officiate.  Military honors will be provided by the Fort Riley Honor Guard at Grace Lawn Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Moline Grade School Library.  Contributions may be left with the funeral home.

Helms was born Oct. 4, 1941, near Grenola to Eliizabeth (McMaster) and Leroy Wayne Helms.  He grew up in Elk County and graduated from Howard High School.

He entered the United States Army in 1963 and served his country until being honorably discharged in 1965.

He and Ethel Irene Bell married in Moline and made their home in Elk County for most of their lives.  Helms was employed by Cessna Aircraft Co., for 39 years until recently retiring.

He coached summer baseball teams for 10 years and served eight years on the West Elk School Board.  He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Helms is survived by his wife, Ethel Helms, Howard, his sons, James Helms, Bentonville, Ark., Tracy Helms, Lincoln, Ala., and David Helms, Howard; two brothers, Bradley Helms, Elk Falls, and Donnie Helms, Howard and five grandchildren.
