Ruth Lavon (Carter) Jellison, age 91, of Sedan, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, December 4, 2008 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan, Kansas.

She was born August 26, 1917 on a farm north of Elk Falls, Kansas to David and Martha Mare (Haines) Carter.  She went to school through the eighth grade.  On September 26, 1934, she married Murel Jellison in Howard, Kansas.  They made their home on the farm southeast of Grenola, Kansas where they lived for forty eight years.  She was preceded in death by her husband on January 16, 1983.  She then moved to Howard, Kansas where she lived until moving to Sedan in 1997.  She was a member of the Moline Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Garry and wife Betty Jellison of Sedan, Kansas; two sisters, Barbara Eisenbach of Tonganoxie, Kansas and Alma Ross of Osage City, Kansas; one daughter-in-law, Elva Jo Jellison of Sedan, Kansas; four grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grndchildren; and a friend, James White.

She was preceded in death by her husband Murel; two sons, Vernon Leroy and David Perry Jellison; her parents; three brothers; and six sisters.

Graveside services are scheduled for Monday, December 8, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola, Kansas with the Reverend Jerry Bever of the First United Methodist Church of Sedan officiating.

Friends may call on Sunday, December 7, 2008 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Monday, December8, 2008 at the David W Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas.The family has suggested memorials to Pleasant Valley Manor and the Moline Baptist Church, and they can be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas  67361.
