Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Denton celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a family dinner at their home, 323 East Bridge, (Blackwell, OK) Sunday.

Baskets of yellow roses, potted plants and mixed bouquets, representing gifts from friends and relatives were used about the rooms of the home.

The dining table was covered with a linen cut work and Battenburg banquet cloth.

The centerpiece was a decorated three-tiered wedding cake, iced in white with rosebuds of gold and pink and topped with an arch of gold leaves from which was suspended a golden wedding bell, beneath was the inscription, "50th Anniversary."

Three golden tapers in crystal cadelabra burned at either end of the centerpiece and similax was entwined throughout the length of the table.

A gold banded china service was used in keeping with the occasion.

The afternoon was spent in taking technicolor movies and in conversation.

An appropriate gift in gold was given to M. and Mrs. Denton by the family.

Mrs. Denton was presented with a camelia corage, festooned with gold metallic ribbon and Mr. Denton with a boutonniere.

Mr. and Mrs. Denton are widely known Cherokee Strip pioneers.

Mr. Denton made the "run" and settled on a claim in the Round Grove community three miles east and two and a half south of the present site of Blackwell.

The couple were married at Howard, Kansas on January 8, 1894 and Mrs. Denton was among the first to enter this community as a bride.

Members of the family who were present were Mr. and Mrs. Guy V. Denton and their daughter, Miss Dorothy Denton and son, Guy Morgan Denton, all of Howard, Kans., Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Denton and son, Richard Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Denton, Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Ellison of Stillwater and Mrs. Aubrey J. Denton and daughter, Darla- Blackwell, Oklahoma

I wonder where 323 Bridge St., is????  I have never heard of that street before.  I suppose that if this anniversary occurred at the Denton home, it is my belief that location is south of Howard and would have been just west of the old highway that is now Pine St. in Howard.

Aha!  ;D ;D I finally got a response to one of my postings!  ;D ;D  It's nice to know that someone is actually reading them.  I went to the original posting and made the clarification, as that address is located in Blackwell, Oklahoma.  Anyone who happens to be researching this family will learn the Denton family had connections in the Elk County, Ks and Kay County, Oklahoma areas.  This article contains lots of genealogical content.

You are read and noticed even though you don't get many responses.  I have been really enjoying your postings.  Keep it up.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! :) :)  I was getting rather discouraged and thought about chucking this project, as I didn't think anyone was interested.  If people showed more of an interest, I will gladly "Bring it on!!"

I love browsing thru the old Howard newspapers from days gone by, and will share it with others if there is an interest.

I particularly enjoyed the Strachan article in the 1942 Howard Courant-Citizen.
"If one of the many corrupt...county-seat contests must be taken by way of illustration, the choice of Howard County, Kansas, is ideal." Dr. Everett Dick, The Sod-House Frontier, 1854-1890.
"One of the most expensive county-seat wars in terms of time and money lost..." Dr. Homer E Socolofsky, KSU

You input was very appreciated.  I will keep that in mind and see what I can find in the older newspapers along that line.  It would be nice to hear from others, as to what type/kind of genealogy articles they would like to see on this forum.

This is a photo I took of the George Wallace and Myrtle Florence (Spease) Denton home in 2004. The home is at 323 Bridge Street in Blackwell, Oklahoma.
