Leah Mateel (Winzer) Jackson, age 101, died Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at the Lakepoint Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in El Dorado, Kansas.  Leah was born on August 30, 1907 to August and Lillie (Sherwood) Winzer.  She grew up in rural Bloomington Township southeast of Augusta, Kansas, and attended Webster Grade School where she later taught, and graduated from Augusta High School in 1926.

On April 29, 1931 Leah married Donald O. Jackson in Wichita, Kansas, and they began farming near her parents in Bloomington Township.  In 1940, thy purchased a farm north of Howard, Kansas where they lived until 1978 when they sold the farm and moved to Howard.  Leah lived there until she was 98 when she moved to the Howard Twilight Manor in th fall of 2005.  In February of 2006, she relocated to Lakepoint Nursing Home in El Dorado so she could be closer to her family.

Leah was a member of the First Baptist Church in Howard, Kansas.  She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and playing cards with her family and friends.

Leah is survived by one daughter, Judy (Jim) Hull of Towanda, Kansas; one son, Jerry (Sheryl) Jackson of Wichita, Kansas; three grandchildren, Cathy (Tom) Wood of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Chris (Angela) Hull of Wichita, Kansas, and Dr. Mollie Jackson of Indianapolis, Indiana; three great-grandchildren, Nick and Nichole Watkins and Gavin Hull.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents; five brothers, William, Roy, Bert, Richard, and Robert; two sisters, Della Bruce and Dora Bottom; and a great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas.  Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Contributions may be made to either the First Baptist Church in Howard or Lakepoint Nursing Home in El Dorado, and may be left in care of the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Zimmerman Funeral Home, Howard, Kansas.
