My brood and I carved two ginormous pumpkins tonight...they turned out really spooky.  Anyone else involved in this insanity this evening??

Cody and I carved a pumpkin tonight.  Lots of seeds and stuff all over the place, but we had fun.  Jason, Cody, and I carved one on Monday.   We had lots of fun.

I ate some pumpkin seeds ..  ::)

But I didn't carve my pumpkin. I am going to use it with my Fall Turkey I set on my porch.

The only part I don't like about carving pumpkins is getting all the guts out.
I did see a very creative way to carve pumpkins in a magazine... use an apple corer and core out holes in the pumpkin into certain shapes or designs.  Also, you can use a metal biscuit cutter to do bigger holes.  Safer than a knife.
If you want to go all out (and not have to get the guts out), get different color of pumpkins and core out holes in each of them, and then swap the cores and put them back in a different color pumpkin.  Very cute!

We used to have the most fun with pumpkin carving.  We organized it for our scout troops every year when the boys were little and I think the parents had as much fun as the kids!  I love the idea of holeing & plugging different colored pumpkin parts together to make designs.  I saw someone carve watermelons once too, and that was cool.  I have a dozen or so here if anyone wants to give it a try...  I can  not imagine that a metal biscuit cutter would make a hole in the rock-hard skins of the pumpkins I put up earlier this month! :P

We grew Russian pumpkins this year and they aren't a great shape for carving, but thet do look good on the porch today and will be nice for Fall decorations if the heat wave we are having doesn't make them spoil too soon  ;)

Happy Trick-or-Treating everyone, come by to see us at the west end of Randolph street!  See you early at the Family Market/Batson's Hot Dog Roast from 5:30 to 7 tonight...

Since I do not like to deal with the mess, I have taken a stencil with Witches,Cats and Ghosts and painted it on the pumpkin. It is not great for night time. But I won 2nd place in a contest where the person that won was just more creative then I was with the stencil.
