Ruth Maxine Perkins, 78, of Howard, died Oct. 22, 2002, at Select Specialty Hospital in Wichita.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zimmerman Funeral Home.  Pastor Robin Haines will officiate.  Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral hone between 7 and 8 Friday evening.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.  Contributions may be left at the funeral home.

Perkins was born March 19, 1924, in Howard, to Hattie Faith (Miller) and Harvey Walter Baughman.  She graduated from Howard High School.

On Oct. 23, 1943, she married Robert Carlton Perkins in Boise, Idaho, while he was stationed at Mountain Home with the U.S. Air Force.  They lived in Boise briefly before she returned to Howard and he served his tour of duty.

A homemaker, she was also employed for several years at the Soil Conservation office in Howard.  She and her husband operated their farm west of Howard.  During the past few years they had lived in Howard.

A daughter, Carla Beth Perkins, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Perkins, Howard, five sons, Max Perkins, Houston, Terry Perkins, Howard, Carl Perkins, Billings, Mont, Steven Perkins, Douglas, and Randy Perkins, Winfield, three daughters, Carol Perkins, Overland Park, Sharon Wagner, Howard, and Tracy McDonald, Waterloo, Iowa; and nine grandchildren.
