Dale R. Montgomery, 36, died Oct. 8 from an accidental gunshot wound that occurred in the garage of his home at Howard.

Born October 16, 1953, in Wichita, he was the son of Richard L. and Helen Mae (Hutton) Montgomery.  He graduated from Howard High School in 1971.

On Dec. 30, 1975, he married Corrie Gallardo in Wichita.  They lived in Yates Center a short time before moving to Howard.  Montgomery lived in Elk County most of his life and was a mechanic in the B & B Department of Santa Fe Railroad at the time of his death.

He attended St Mary's Catholic church in Moline.

Survivors include his wife, of the home, three sons, Christopher Montgomery of Pittsburg and Daniel and Justin Montgomery of the home; a brother, Gary Montgomery, of Del Rio, Texas, and three sisters, Ruth Stewart of Tyro, Mary Goldwater of Wichita, and Lois Morgan of Winfield.

The Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, and Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, both at St. Mary's Catholic church in Moline.  Father David O'Leary will officiate.  Casketbearers will be Marlin Baumgartel, Carl Garison, Larry Gragg, Larry Gallardo, Gary Gillum, Jim Harrington, Bill Redmond and Jim Wiseman.  Honorary casketbearers will be Robert McKenzie, Doc Swaney and Randy Wiseman.

Military graveside services will be conducted by Carter-Radar Post No. 149 of Howard in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Moline.

The Dale Montgomery Memorial has been established for his family, with the Howard State Bank.  Contributions can be left at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard.
