I've not seen an obituary yet on Charles Flaiz, but do know a little about him....
Charles Arthur Flaiz was born on Sept. 5, 1914 to Arthur Richard & Minnie May (Volmer) Flaiz.  He passed away on Sept. 12, 2008 at the age of 94 years and 7 days.  He died as the result of a two-car accident just north of Severy at the US Hwy. 400 and KS Hwy. 99 North junction.
Charles was a 1935 graduate of Severy Rural High School.  He was also a veteran of World War II.  He was the widower of Ellen Pauline (Gilbert) Flaiz, who was born Oct. 9, 1911 and died May 20, 1991.
In 1947, Charlie began working at the Severy Post Office where he was employed for 33 years.  During the first seven years of his employment he served as acting postmaster twice and as a substitute rural mail carrier on route two.  On Aug. 20, 1954, he was appointed postmaster and he served in that capacity until Aug. 28, 1980, holding the postmaster position at Severy longer than any other - 26 years.

Well shucks, that's a real shame. I sent him a birthday card just before his birthday recently.

We sent him a birthday card, too.  He was a real sweetheart.  Sue said Charlie was thrilled with all the cards he received.  She said he received a really large stack of them.

"Chick" was a really great person.  He always had a smile and a warm greeting.  I knew several of his nieces and nephews.  Also, his wife's family were friendds of ours as well.  He will be missed very much.
