Daniel James Jansen, age 88, of Moline, Kansas, died Friday, August 4, 2006, at Elk Manor Nursing Home in Moline, Kansas.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2006, at the Moline United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Loftin and Rev. Gary Parsons officiating.  Military honors and interment will be in Moline Cemetery.

Memorials are sugged to the Moline United Methodist Church or the Moline City Park Department and they may be left with Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Mr. Jansen was born on August 30, 1917 at Milwaukee, Wis., to Anthony and Mary Louise Jansen.  He graduated from high school in West Allis, Wis., in 1936 and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1938.

Mr. Jansen served in the Marine Corps Band and was assigned as a presidential bodyguard for Franklin D. Roosevelt.

On December 5, 1942, he married Leanora Rairdon in Washington, D.C.

After his discharge from the Marines Corps in 1943, the couple lived in West Allis, before moving to Kansas.  In 1948, they bought a jewelry store in Onega which they operated until moving to Emporia, where he became an executive with the Boy Scouts of America.  They lived in Iowa, Missouri and kansas during his career of nearly 25 years with the Boy Scouts.  They have made their home in Moline since his retirement in 1979.

Mr. Jansen was a member of the Marine Corps League at Independence and the American Legion Post in Moline.  He was also a member of Midian Shrine in Wichita, Hope Masonic Lodge and the Moline United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter, Mary Jo Faye, Yukon, Oklahoma, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
