Has the heat stopped members from posting?

Not much going on around my house because of the heat. We come home from work and pretty much stay inside. I go out and cook on the grill to keep the heat out of the house. It is 9:55 p.m. and it is still 89 degrees outside. The dog days of summer are certainly here.

Today Derek called me and said...
"Mom, get your oven thermometer and put it outside."
So, as I have said in other posts where my kids are concerned..
I obediently did as I was told. ( like a trained dog) $:-\$
I took it outside on the south side of the house, and set it on Ashley's little plastic doll buggy, away from the sidewalk and anything metal.
The time was 3:45.

15 minutes later at 4:00, I went outside to look at it.
It was 500 degrees and peaked out. It couldn't get any higher!
I about flipped out!
I could have had a pot roast with the fixins', and baking powder biscuits in a pan with a lid on the bare sidewalk , and supper world have been done.

Unbelievable heat..

I hope everyone takes the time to give their animals lots of extra water and shade.. or better yet if possible, bring them in for the hot part of the day.

HOLY BUCKETS !!! That does it - I am going to come home to Howard and do my cooking outside on the sidewalk --- think how much money I could save on my utility bills !!!

More on the topic of inticing people to visit the sunshine state... Todays high here was only 98. Of course with the humidity it felt like 109 in Kansas. But then again you could go to the beach and cool off. Janet I am not letting this heat stop me from posting, hope you enjoy.

Oh, jensarlou, there is no way I'm coming to Florida. Those people don't know how to count and they would probably miss count my change and rob me blind just because they don't know how to count.

Hey I can count but I suppose thats cause I spent 7 yrs in KS and it must have rubbed off on me huh?

Its really not all that bad down here.

Although they could use a real good lady sherriff.

Wednesday and Thursday was a pain in Wichita. I think it reach 109 degrees both days. Today (Friday) has been great. I think it only reach 88 or 89 degrees.

The midwest has been experiencing a heat wave through the first part of the week and I was expecting to see Al Gore on the national news talk about Global warming and that it was because of America......and that the end of civilization was near. He's been saying that Global warming will destroy us in ten years. Of course, he has been saying that for the last 25 years.

Speaking of the heat . . . got this in an e-mail today:

The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.

The trees are whistling for the dogs.

The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.

Hot water now comes out of both taps.

You can make sun tea instantly.

The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.

You discover that in July it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.

You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.

Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"

The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter, salt and pepper.

Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs.

The cows are giving evaporated milk.
