I started to post this under genealogy but thought better of it.

Have you ever wondered why Donald Duck has three nephews hanging around all the time?

Here is the answer along with more than you ever wanted to know about the Duck family.

Hang in there, as this can get complicated.

Elvira Coot (Grandma Duck) married Humperdink Duck. They took up residence on a farm outside Duckburg,
Calisota, and the couple had three children:

       Quackmore Duck, Donald Duck's father,
       Daphne Duck, Gladstone Gander's mother,
Eider Duck, who would marry Lulubelle Loon

Elvira and Humperdink were called Ma and Pa Duck by everyone. Eventually, everyone called them Grandpa and Grandma. However, Humperdink died at a rather early age leaving Elvira a widow.

One of their children, Quackmore, married Hortense McDuck. Hortense's father and mother were Fergus McDuck and the former Downy O'Drake of Scotland. The McDucks immigrated to Duckburg with Hortense and two other children, Scrooge, and Matilda.

Quackmore and Hortense had twins, a male, Donald, and a female, Della. Donald nicknamed his sister Dumbella in their early years.

Information is sketchy but Hortense and Quackmore seem to have left Duckburg for parts unknown leaving Donald behind with Grandma Duck who raised him on her farm.

Della, Donald's sister, married an unidentified brother of local Duckburg resident Daisy Duck. After marriage, they moved somewhere far off from Duckburg. They subsequently had triplet boys, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. From an early age, the boys were a nightmare to handle and not manageable. The boys were so badly behaved they caused their father to be sent to the hospital, the result of their setting off a big firecracker under his chair.

Della could not handle the children while their father was hospitalized. She became so incensed at the boys' behavior; she gave up on them and sent them to live with Donald. Donald, the good brother he was, took it on himself to raise them. From time to time, he has had help from Grandma, particularly at Christmas time. Della has never reclaimed the boys.

Grandma still lives on the farm outside Duckburg. Her grandnephew (somehow) is Gus Goose, a sleepy hired hand. Gus' father is Luke Goose who married the former Fanny Coot, reportedly a daughter of Grandma's brother, Casey Coot. On her farm, Grandma refuses modern comforts, drives her old electric automobile, and does not own a TV.

Donald Duck dates Daisy Duck. The similarity in their last name seems to be a coincidence as the last name Duck is like the last name Smith. Donald used to date Donna Duck, but her whereabouts are unknown. Daisy Duck lives in Duckburg by herself and is a member of the local ladies club. Her parentage is unknown but she has one sister and one brother. Neither of their names are known. Daisy's brother is the father of Della's three boys.

Sometimes Daisy dates Gladstone Gander, a cousin of Donald. Gladstone's father is Goosetave Gander and his mother is the former Daphne Duck, daughter of Grandma Duck.

Daisy has a sister but that sister's name is unknown. The sister has three female children, April, May, and June, who sometimes visit Daisy.

Ludwig von Drake is from Vienna, Austria. He immigrated to Duckburg and married Scrooge McDuck's sister, Matilda. It is unknown if they have any children.

Scrooge McDuck has never married. However, he has had feelings for a female, Goldie O'Gilt, who is sometimes referred to as Glittering Goldie. At one time Goldie lived in Scrooge's cottage in Dawson City, Yukon Territory. Scrooge made his millions in the goldfields. Goldie also has never married but she started the Blackjack Saloon in Dawson and now manages the Blackjack Ballroom at the same location.

Scrooge may also have a thing for his somewhat elderly secretary, Miss Emily Quackfaster, .

Waldo, wasn't there a similar thing with Popeye and his nephew sweet pea? Looked like Popeye, no mention of Popeye's siblings, I'm thinking Popeye was a little more closely related than we were led to believe.

W. Gray

As well as Mickey Mouse.

He had a couple nephews, Morty and Ferdie, sons of Mickey's sister, Amelia Fieldmouse.

Minnie Mouse, Mickey's girlfriend, has two nieces named Millie and Melody.

Mickey has an aunt named Aunt Agatha and Minnie has a rich Uncle Mortimer. Uncle Mortimer has a big cattle ranch and his seedy lawyer is Sylvester Shyster.

Popeye

Sweet Pea was not a nephew of Popeye.

Popeye and Olive Oyl are not married but they care for a little one named Sweet Pea, whom Popeye adopted. They live in Sweet Haven. Sweet Pea was left on Popeye's doorstep by persons unknown.

Olive Oyl has a brother named Castor Oyl. Her parents are Cole and Nana Oyl.

Olive Oyl has a nephew named Diesel Oyl. Her original boyfriend was Ham Gravy.

Popeye's father was Poopdeck Pappy, a rather immoral character who abandoned the family.

Popeye has four nephews, all look a likes, Peepeye, Pupeye, Pipeeye and Poopeye.

Since this is the political season, and in the interest of equal time, here is some information on Tom and Jerry,

Tom is a Russian Blue Cat. In his first cartoon his name was Jasper. Tom has two girl friends seen over the years, named Sheikie and Toodles Galore.

A nemesis black cat is called Butch, who is often portrayed dining from garbage cans cafeteria style.

Another nemesis is Spike the Bulldog, who has a son named Tyke. Mrs Bulldog has never been seen nor heard from.

Tom's black female owner, whose face is never seen, is Miss Mammy Two Shoes.

Jerry is a run of the mill brown house mouse. He has a little gray baby mouse as a companion first introduced as Sniffles, then renamed Nibbles, then renamed Tuffy.

MGM quit making Tom and Jerry in 1957.

From 1960-1962, Tom and Jerry cartoons were made behind the iron curtain in Czechoslovakia under license to MGM.

From 1963 to 1967 MGM again made Tom and Jerry in Hollywood.

All the Tom and Jerry cartoons made from 1960 on, are what I call "stinkers," they are terrible.

Tom and Jerry were scheduled for inclusion in Who Framed Roger Rabbit but legal problems kept them out.
For those who have never seen Roger Rabbit, every major cartoon character there ever was, is in that movie except for Tom and Jerry.

Today Warner Brothers, rather than MGM, owns the rights to Tom and Jerry.

Woody Woodpecker
I never had any interest in Woody Woodpecker except that his voice was the wife of Walter Lantz who created him. I did, however, like Andy Panda who came from the same studio.
