Elvin H. "Red" Lakin, 96, longtime resident of the Fall River, Kansas and New Albany, Kansas area, died Friday, August 8, 2008 at Lakepoint of Augusta, Kansas.  He was born March 25, 1912 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, the son of Isaac and Elizabeth (Wyatt) Lakin.  Mr. Lakin was a self-employed farmer and also worked as a custodian for the Fall River Schools.

On May 31, 1930 in Eureka, Kansas, he married Amy Ethel Worfod, to which seven sons were born.  She preceded him in death July 25, 1973. He was also preceded in death by his parents and four sons, Charles, Rex, Roy, and Bob.

His survivors include three sons, Bill Lakin of Leon, Kansas, Dick and Esther Lakin of El Dorado, Kansas, and Ron and Irene Lakin of Augusta, Kansas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the Fredonia City Cemetery with Jack Vaught officiating.  A memorial has been established in his name with Fall River Community Building Fund and may be sent to Timmons Funeral Home, P.O. Box 168, Fredonia, Kansas  66736 which is in charge of the arrangements.
