Not as Liberal as You Think

Some of you on this forum (not naming names), are under the impression that I am some wild liberal that is madly infatuated with Obama.  Yes, I have defended Obama on several occasions for the simple fact that it irks me that he is constantly being badmouthed and repeatedly persecuted for either rumors of his past or poor choices he has made in his life.  The same could be held true for so many of us.  I know that during my lifetime I have done things that were not the best choices in my life.  I also am aware that many times in my life people have believed rumors about myself that tore me up inside.  I am naturally a person who will automatically come to the defense of others who are being attaced either verbally or physically.  It is my nature. I believe if you look back at many of my posts my comments are those of defense of others.

As far as my beliefs politically, I am caught in the middle.   I do not belief that government has a right to come in and tell me how to live my life.  I believe in the 2nd amendment, my husband is a hunter and has a variety of guns.  I am a proud Christian, that wishes that the Ten Commandments were still posted in schools and Court Houses across America.  I don't want to be taxed out the wazzooo for every little thing I have in my life.  I feel something should be done about our borders.

On the other hand, I wish more was done for our education system.  I believe that something needs to be done to help single mothers get a higher education.  Health care and the cost of insurance scares the heck out of me.  I think we need to lose all the lobbyists that corrupt our elected officials.  I think we need to do more to help those in our country that are less fortunate, namely the children.  I believe that the systems that are set up to help these people need to be policed more so that certain people don't abuse the system.  We need to find effcient/cost effective forms of energy for our future.  We need to stop outsourcing (sp) jobs.

These are just a few of my political concerns.  Do either of the candidates that are running for office fit the person I would like to be elected.   NO!   So please don't say I "fit the bill" of a certain political type. I am just an Amercian trying to find the best way for my family.

Well stated, Minnie. :-)  Thank you for your observations...they have made me admire you all the more...and I mean that sincerely.  I hope your 4th went well for you and yours. :-)

Personally, I'm still undecided and have had to lower my expectations somewhat on both sides. I want to know more about specifics on what they want to accomplish and how they expect to do it. Who will be their advisers and cabinet members? There is more at stake than just the presidency. What will congress do? The whole thing now seems to be more about how much the parties can damage each other and less about leading this country. I want to know more about qualifications for leadership now, and less about who did what years ago. I've had enough of clever generalities and scare tactics on both sides. Give me some specifics I can chew on.

I agree completely, Diane. How does one make an informed, intelligent choice when all we are given is nanny-nanny-boo-boo nonsense? Both camps are spending so much time and effort trying to dig up dirt on each other, and I'm disappointed that neither candidate is putting his foot down and saying "Enough! Let's talk about issues!"

Unfortunatley neither candidate will do that. The nature of american politics is dig up enough dirt on the other guy that he looks worse than your worst skeleton that you've got rattlin around in the closet. Presidents don't change anything, congressmen change what pays the most, the taxpayers and voters are left standin with a stupid look on their faces sayin "what the hell just happened?" All the finger pointin and dirt diggin are just one more way of blowin smoke up the peoples butts to take their attention off what's really happenin in the country and the world.
