Dr. Kate's hubby is Dr. Dave, of course.
Our county should be honored to have 7 veterinarians.  3 of the 7 of whom are women.

Don't anyone take this the wrong way. :P  I'm just highlighting an obvious and sad fact of life for the area.

Seven veterinarians. . . .

Zero MD's or DO's

Zero optomitrists

Zero dentists

One practicing attorney

Lookatmeknow!!

We do now have a MD.  Dr. Rob Hutchinson.  He and his wife Kristan moved back here from Emporia, oh a couple of years ago.  He practiced medicine up there (not sure where), and his wife is a lawyer.  She beat out Tina Hubbell for the Mag. judge spot.  She was Kristan Coble.  I think they both attended school in the area.  He is from the Grenola area.  They were my neighbors at one time, until the move to the Grandparents house.  But my kids still love to go and visit them.  They are very nice people.  He is a wonderful Doctor.  He is in with Dr. Mike from the Bluestem Medical Clinic.  My children used to go to a Pedi Doctor, but they really like Dr. Rob and we go here now.
Love everyday like it's your last on earth!!

Sorry to break up hometown lovefest, but I am going to poach here a minute.

Flintaqua:

I understand where you were going with your post but don't forget there are a lot of people in Elk Co with college degrees and professions.  And there are just as many "heroes" who demonsrate good work ethics, morals, character, and convictions without a college degree  or a prefix/suffix attached to their names that help keep Howard and Elk Co. alive.

And as far as hometown heros, lets not forget people in the military.   All business owners in Elk County that work hard to stay afloat and meet everyones needs so that they don't have to go out of town for necessities.  Many, many more behind the scenes people are not recognized.

Teresa

Thank you lola..
That is a fact. It is very hard to keep a business afloat in a small town. Takes a special person to want to work hard and "hang in there" .

There are heros everyday that you will pass on the street. The ones who are always doing for others or lending a helping hand..
Never calling attention to themselves.. They are hero's.

Gosh, I thought being one of seven DVM's was pretty neat.  Now I am not so sure. ???

I nominate the Perkins women...Julie, Kate and Susie...women whose virtues need no explanation!  If you need explanation, go to the end of the BHO thread.  Next?

BHO thread?  Can you elaborate?

I have to laugh here...I wrote that WAY back (and I mean so long ago that I don't even remember which original Obama thread it was on), before there were so many threads dedicated to the Obaminable.  Nowadays, there are so many that most of them have already fallen into a state of disuse.  I would have a devil of a time remembering which one I had posted on...sorry.  Just another case of "part-timers"!

Dr. Dave; don't feel bad.  If everyone looks at the makeup of the county... X number of people in the county... XXX number of cattle/goats/dogs.  My point is that a 7 to 1 ratio of vets to doctors is perfectly normal in this area since the ratio of livestock to people is about the same.

This is one thing you don't realize everyday, though... Dr. D and K don't actually work in Elk County, but they do support the community and do their shopping here, which is actually bringing IN money to the county.  Same goes for me... I work from my home and my paycheck actually comes from another state, and since I do biz in EK, then I'm bringing in money to the county.  So, even those people who work outside the county (teachers in Eureka, oil rigs in Sedan, etc), as long as they shop in EK, they are helping the economy of the community.  And "the" question that EK is trying to answer is that how do we bring in other money from outside the county?

And for every dollar that is spent here, generally stays here, at least for a while.  Once they go out of town they are most likely gone for good.
