Hi everyone.
I'm not wimping out on this board.. really I'm not.. but right now I am up past Jack's  beanstalk in work ( the kind of work that helps with the paycheck  ;)  :D )
so I am not having the extra time to devote to this board like I wanted to. This subject is one of my favorites and I have so much I want to share with you.. so I am suggesting this as an alternative for awhile:
I am a premium member and I pay a monthly fee for information from HSI. ( Health Science Institute)
It is an excellent resource and I get e-alerts for the latest scoop about new groundbreaking products that you'll rarely hear about in the mainstream media. You can also sign up for the HSI alert for free (without becoming a premium member)

Instead of me going over each and every section and rewriting it and posting it on the forum ( which takes a load of time) I would ask you all if you would be offended if I shared the information to you pretty much as I get it ( complete with links to new products and information) And if you decide to get the alerts in your mail.. you can also pick something off of the daily information and post it, if you think it is something someone might benefit from. .
Please make sure what you take off is not just copied and pasted. I should be condensed so that it is understandable to everyone.

One more thing.. and please understand this~~~~~
I certainly don't want to ruffle anyone's feathers..... so before some of you take off running to grab your beads, crosses and your garlic necklaces to protect yourself from my beliefs....    I will tell you that this newsletter is NOT anti doctor..nor extreme anti anything.. BUT............ :)
BUT...................  They ARE for uncovering information and letting you know what the doctors, the drug companies, the FDA and your HMO (Insurance) are NOT WANTING YOU TO KNOW.

I am not affiliated with the company or products in any way..but I DO use some of them. I have had wonderful success and personal
satisfaction with the products that I use on a daily basis.  But that part is up to every individual's preference.

The information is the part that I am most interested in sharing.. and as with everything that anyone presents to you though any form of media.... please use it or disregard it as your right to do so.

Thank you....

"I have a friend in the Netherlands who is having some problems. Her name is Trudy. She is having fatigue and sleeplessness. She is literally grabbing for straws at this point to help her get some much needed rest."

Trudy might get a restful night's sleep with the help of a treatment that's highly recommended by a Roman emperor.

Running the Roman Empire had to be a stressful job. So when Emperor Publius Licinius Valerianus suffered from sleeplessness, he found relief with an herbal extract that was known to calm the nerves and promote sleep.
In fact, the herb was eventually named after him: valerian.

In the first half of the 20th Century, valerian was listed in the U.S. national formulary as a sleep aid and an anxiolytic..( which is simply an anti-anxiety agent)
In later decades, conventional doctors shifted their attention to synthetic anxiolytics such as Xanax and Valium.
But herbalists still recognize valerian's usefulness as a calming agent that has also been shown to help you make the most of your  slow-wave phase of sleep.

((This gets a little 'big wordy" ))  :D

The importance of the two key sleep cycles:
"When light is reduced, signaling cells in your retina relay a series of messages to your hypothalamus and pineal glands, prompting them to produce melatonin (the 'sleep' hormone that causes sedation, accompanied by a drop in body temperature).

"Meanwhile, your brain's more stimulating neurotransmitters (like epinephrine, norepinephrine, and serotonin) are deactivated, preparing your body for the upcoming cycles of sleep.
Your brain alternates between two of these: rapid eye movement (commonly known as REM, or the 'dream' state)
and non-rapid eye movement (NREM, also known as 'slow wave' sleep, alluding to your decreased brain activity during that time).

"Both cycles are essential for different reasons:
Research has shown that REM sleep is important for emotional well-being and memory, while the slower NREM cycle is the time at which your immune system builds itself up and your body is restored and repaired."

A new sleep-aid formula  called V-Calm was developed . ((I have not used this, as I sleep like a baby))

In addition to valerian, the V-Calm formula includes hops, lemon balm, and passionflower – three herbs that the Commission E (Germany's guide to the therapeutic use of herbs) endorses as being safe and effective in promoting restfulness and relaxation.

The V-Calm formula is completed with these additional ingredients:
L-theanine – an amino acid that helps prompt calming "wakeful relaxation" alpha-wave brain activity
L-glutamine – an amino acid that's been shown to improve mood and reduce hostility
Taurine – an amino acid that helped regulate stress tolerance in animal studies
Niacin – a key nutrient for energy metabolism and DNA repair
Vitamin B6 – plays a key role in neurotransmitter synthesis and cell metabolism
Folic Acid – supports cognitive function and emotional wellbeing
Vitamin B12 – crucial for elevated, peaceful moods and memory (stores of this vitamin are depleted by the stress hormone cortisol)
Pantothenic Acid – enhances adrenal function and balances release of stress hormones
Magnesium Oxide – boosts vasomotor control and facilitates healthy neurotransmission, which helps manage anxiety and stress

Trudy's fatigue is the most obvious result of lack of sleep.
Research has shown that chronic sleep dysfunction can also play a role in the development of serious health risks such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and memory loss.

Just a little home remedy for relaxing....bout 7 or 8 drops of lavender essential oil in a bath helps you relax and calms your nerves also. I'm very interested in natural remedies so thank you for this board:) A plus of the lavender oil is chiggers and fleas and such hate it! I mix it with water in a spray bottle and use it like OFF!

There are plenty of days where I'm so tired by the time I leave work that I just don't feel like exercising. But somewhere along the line I read that it's always a good idea to try for at least 20 minutes before deciding to throw in the towel. Usually, by the time you've made it through 20 minutes, another 25 seems manageable. But according to a new study from the University of Georgia, even if you do only make it through that initial 20 minutes, you'll still make a huge impact on your energy levels.

The researchers looked at 36 people who didn't exercise on a regular basis and reported persistent fatigue. They divided the volunteers into three groups. The first group was instructed to exercise at moderate intensity for 20 minutes three times a week. The second group was told to exercise at low intensity for 20 minutes three times a week. And the third group didn't add any exercise to their normal routine.

After six weeks, both the groups that added three short exercise sessions to their normal routines each week reported feeling significantly less fatigued. But in a surprising twist, the group that did the low-intensity exercising actually fared even better than the moderate-intensity group: Their fatigue plummeted by 65 percent, versus just 49 percent in the moderate-intensity group.

The researchers classified the intensity levels by referring to low-intensity as an easy, leisurely walk on flat terrain and moderate-intensity as a brisk, fast-paced walk on terrain that includes some hills.

This study is more good news for those of you who aren't yet sold on the idea of regular exercise or feel like you're too tired or don't have the time:
Once again, research shows that even a little bit can go a long way in improving your health -- and your energy levels

Lookatmeknow!!

I am on a Walk Across Kansas Team.  I have purchased a few of the DVD's Walk Away the pounds.  They range from 2 to 4 miles.  I usually start the week with a couple of the either 3 or 4 miles and finish my exercise week with the 2 miles.  But I love them and they do make me sleep better and feel so much better.  I think this is week 4 or 5, sorry can't quit remember, but it is worth every effort that I put into it.  I have stopped weighning myself though, I get to upset not to see the number on the scale that I want.  I have decided that the weight took many years, 3 kids, to put on, it can't come off in a complete 6 or even 8 weeks.  I have made up my mind that it is something that I will have to do for the rest of my life.  I really enjoy exercising now.  But I do it at least 5 times a week.  I do believe that it has improved my energy levels, too.  And with my job, all the energy helps so much!!
Love everyday like it's your last on earth!!

Do any of y'all do yoga? I don't do it as regular as I used to but it's really good for flexibility and strength. Can lower your blood pressure and stress levels. Stimulates your organs. Really makes me feel good :)

Karmablvr, it is last summer, I think, that I posted the bit about your lavender oil in water for chiggers and ticks, but did not know the quantities.  It is in remedies - you might post how much oil in how much water.

For one of those small spray bottles like in the makeup department I use bout 15 -20 drops in a bottle of water, I think they hold like 6 or 8 ounces. Just shake it up every time before you use it.
