Easter  this year is: Sunday March 23, 2008

As you may know, Easter is always the 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after the Spring Equinox (which is March 20). This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify Passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar. Found out a couple of things you might be interested in! Based on the above, Easter can actually be one day earlier (March 22) but that is pretty rare. This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see the rest of our lives! And only the most elderly of our population have ever seen it this early (95 years old or above!). And none of us have ever, or will ever, see it a day earlier! Here's the facts:The next time Easter will be this early (March 23) will be the year 2228 (220 years from now). The last time it was this early was 1913 (so if you're 95 or older, you are the only ones that were around for that!). The next time it will be a day earlier, March 22, will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now). The last time it was on March 22 was 1818. So, no one alive today has or will ever see it any earlier than this year!

Wow ! That is surprising.

Jo I thought Easter was early this year......didn't know that it is a historical event.
Thanks for the info.

Very interesting.

I always wondered about the Easter variation but never dreamed it had anything to do with a full moon.

Passover is not until April 20 this year and I always thought the two went together ???

Going to use this to start "what are your Easter plans".  I am so excited.  For the first time in 3 years I will have all my grandchildren together and all the great grandchildren but one.  My three children will be here also.  Think Kelly and I counted 27 for dinner altogether with family, in-law family and friends.  What a wonderful day this will be. Because of the Cross, I am truly blessed.
MY GOAL IS TO LIVE FOREVER. SO FAR, SO GOOD !

Happy Easter to all. We took flowers to the cemetery today, but don't have anything with family tomorrow. We always have golden rod (curried ) eggs for Easter breakfast. We used to make it with the dyed eggs and the tradition just stuck.

I am expecting a quiet day tomorrow.  Janet is working, daughter in Missouri is working, daughter at Winfield is having her grandkids so first daughter and I will spend the day here.  Wish the country roads were dry enough for us to drive them.  I would like a trip to the country.  Of course nothing is blooming yet and there wouldn't be anything to see.  We could stop at my brother's farm and check Mother's peonies and tulips to see if they are coming up.  I still know where to find them.  The lilacs should be budding real good.  If I am lucky the day will be warm enough I will feel like getting outside and I can check my own peonies and tulips and lilacs.
